Detection 1/0

Post by topeverest »

I've had a convoy spotted at 1/0 58 hexes from the nearest empire base. Should I assume that my opponent has seen this, or is FOW just screwing with me? FYI, no enemy sub spotted and considerable ASW assets available.

I could very well be wrong, but as i seem to get a few of these 1/0 on Allied in bases/TF a turn and that sorta match when i play the japanese side having a few radio intercept/messages a turn so that seems to fit. So i think these 1/0 is results of "increase" in DL resulting from sigintel radio messeage results on the other side.

Ofc it could be sub that increase such in the case u tell about, but as also see it in bases filled with mines where i assume subs dont go/come unrecogniesed and in places u wouldnt expect subs. So that sorta rules that out leaving my logical reasoning with the cause of the 1/0 DL comming as a result as said from the opposing sides sigintel radio messages.

Stressing its a theory,

My guess is sigint too (but take that with a grain of salt since I haven't played Japan and I know they have crap sigint). Chances are your opponent has a TF icon on the screen with no data if they mouse over it. For all your opponent knows that could be a sub, not a larger TF.

It probably equates to a "Heavy volume of radio traffic at xx" in the Jap Int report. That's as good as it gets for them......

Playing as Allies, early on I noticed that sometimes I would see a TF icon on the map somewhere but not have any info on it. Definitely sigint in those cases.

In my experience these IJ signal intercepts ('radio transmission at hex xx,yy') are usually accurate and worth being checked out. My interpretation is that some numbskull violated OPSEC and broadcast in the clear, with the broadcast being directionally triangulated by Japanese listening posts.

Such information is almost always valid in that there is SOMETHING there... use it or pay a price! Hal
