For Japanese Betty's and Nell's do you need a size 4 or 5 airbase to avoid penalties?

have searched but cannot find the answer and the bomb load equation is difficult to apply as they carry a torpedo as their main load?

any help appreciated.

thanks

2E planes only need a size 4 airfield to avoid penalties.

There are two relevant but different penalty parameters in play here.

1. Level bombers (specifically HB/MB/AB) carrying GP ordnance are covered by the formula which determines the necessary sized airfield.

2. The same aircraft models which can also carry torpedoes are directly affected by the presence of a within range unit which holds a ready supply of available torpedoes, and indirectly by the availability of supply to buy the necessary torpedoes for that within range holding unit.
