Decrypting .btr Save file

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Decrypting .btr Save file

Post by cohimbra »

Hi all, sometimes the lack of game info made me crazy, so I decided to read the ones
that I supposed are contained into my .btr save file. With surprise I discovered that
the save file are encrypted, so I decided to make a research on this forum and I found
this post:

"Harley: The Matrix release will use a compressed and encrypted save file to prevent
pbem tampering (not that I think anyone does, but if the protection is there from the
start, it's hard to accuse anyone of misconduct)..."

Well, I don't want to accuse anyone of misconduct, but I'm here to ask if it's possible
to have access to the password that decrypt the .btr save files. Although I expect a
negative response, ask it cost me nothing.
I thank those who have the courtesy to answer to my question.

Best Regards.

I fully support this request
the contents of the *save file may, at least, help us to fill the gaps in the documentation

thanks in advance

just out of curiousity...

what are you trying to archieve by opening the save file, cohimbra?
Do you have plans for coding an editor or something like that?
that would be cool,btw ;)

I think we should wait for Harley turning back online...
anybody knows what happened to him? he is missing since 4 or 5 month now :(

I could give you all infos you need, but dont want to ran in trouble by violating one of matrix-games rules!

It's a shame that this brilliant game has no future without releasing the source code! [:@]

anyway... have a good time! [:)]

I have given up on Harley. I will not post on this subject here for the same reason given by Creeper. If you wish to discuss this sort of thing send a pm or email.

Hi, I have no intention and I'm not able to create an editor, I would like to have access
to the save file to better understand some obscure game dinamic...however, thanks for your
quick replies.

As usual I have managed to convey the wrong impression. I am not trying to tell anyone what "they" can or should do. I am saying what I plan on doing. The line should have been "If you wish to discuss it with me send me a pm or email". My apologies for the poor writing.

@creeper

I would love to get my hands on the source code. The problem is the ridiculous restrictions Harley Sarge and Co. have to labor under. I am allergic to idiots in suits who are clueless but have to approve everything you do. So, unless they are willing to sell the rights I don't see much happening on that front.

I for one would not mind giving them, say, the next 4 years worth of projected income for the rights to the game.
