I appreciate the compliment but yes, this is truly my first AE game, but I did play WitP extensively back in the day.

I don't see any movement north by either KB to go after my CA's, but it does look like he is trying sneak some surface assets up there; it appears like a perfect time to pull the 1.5 British carriers out and into the war.

No planes at Prabo right now, although I do shuttle planes back and forth between there and Palembang - the Palembang AF is a lot bigger, and he has yet to bombard the place. I really don't know if I have enough at Palembang to successfully defend it, it really depends on how big of a hammer he wants to bring, but based on what he has landed at Oosthaven right now I can hold it, especially after the skeeters get after them.

And yes, it was a good day for the State, although it was a close run thing for us. At least it was a marked improvement over last year.

Japs Picking Up Speed

The ill-conceived movement of LBA into Moulmein continues to cost the Japanese as the local British Navy continues to bombard the base nightly. There was a conversation in this thread earlier about Skyros bringing the KB into the Bay of Bengal to dispense with the nuisance, but they are still in the Java Sea supporting his tardy attack on Sumatra, but I will be getting to that.



This is the BB TF the Japanese have tasked to smite the pesky RN CL’s and DD’s at Rangoon who are very busy delivering nightly parcels to the Japanese at Moulmein.

If you note TF at Point Blair, it is a single AK unloading groceries to the lonely defenders there, and has received no orders to depart the premises; in fact I hope it draws his attention to the place.

I was concerned the defenders here would be smashed by naval bombardment prior to an attack, and I was correct – I am glad I chose not to station one of my better units here. As you can see, he is serious about taking Sumatra, and quick. I wonder if his oil/fuel supplies are starting to pinch some. Hopefully when he does finally take Palembang it will be a pyrrhic victory – I have 139 engineers there right now and they should inflict serious damage to the facilities. But I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon because he has 629 assault value landed while I have 839 behind level 3 forts and a river. Additionally, there are about 110 at Prabo with level 2 forts (plus 49%) and a river. While I do realize this will only be a speed bump on the way to the ultimate objective, the disruption the shock attack will cause the Japanese, in a malarial zone, I hope will be worth the sacrifice, although I AM considering pulling them back to Palembang as well.
I have time to think about it.



In the run up to the invasion, the ABDA defenders managed to inflict some damage on transports, primarily through torpedo bomber attacks, sinking a few, along with a DMS and a CM. Unfortunately though, the ABDA strike strength is pretty much gone now, and have been ordered back to Soerabaja for eventual withdrawal from the region. I still have some fighters at Palembang although their numbers are dwindling quickly. These losses have not been in vain however because they have been inflicting a large toll on Japanese Nells, Kates, and Vals which have been used extensively against western ABDA bases.

An addendum after watching the movie for the next turn:

1) It is time to salvage the aircraft and pilots I can from Sumatra; the overwhelming Zero sweeps have begun.

2) The BB TF on its way to the Bay of Bengal? It detoured around the tip of Sumatra and sank the valiant Electra. RIP.

Defending Palembang comes with some innate advantages. First, it can't be reached by BBs, so any bombardment would come from CAs or less. Second, and much more importantly, bombarding usually destroys oil and refinery centers along with destroying planes and troops. No Japanese player worth his salt will ever send in a bombardment against Palembang (or Balikpapan, or Tarakan) since he'd essentially be helping destroy what will soon be his own resources. For that reason, you can feel safer than usual operating planes from Palembang early in the game as the Allies.

let me suggest storing the fighters elsewhere in the DEI, and when they are healed, or it looks like the empire is attacking, throw them back in. Also if you didnt know, level 0 ports are excellent places to store DD;s and the like for naval raiding. This campaign is far from over. John Paul Jones isn't about to utter his famous words...

I am not sure I agree. The quartermasters on Bataan are out of beans and bullets so it probably wont be long before he can start bringing those troops to Malaysia. In any case though, I do intend to stop building when I get to level 5 forts.

If you noticed all of the arty and engineer units on Sumatra, I believe those may have been earmarked for Singapore but were sent south to reduce Palembang quickly. Unfortunately for him though, he still does not know what he is facing at Palembang - he doesn't have enough ass in his britches to take the place, at least not without bombarding the base to rubble.

The media darling USCw lost to Wazoo last night, much to the consternation of the game’s announcers.



In danger of being cut off, the Allies abandoned Rangoon which the Japanese occupied this turn. Fortunately to partisans did lots of damage to the base in the interim.




Interestingly, the Japanese occupied Lahat this turn, which I did not see coming. It could have been an airborne operation because I cannot figure our how else they could have gotten there. I just moved fighters back to Palembang from Batavia and set a few on LR CAP over Lahat as well as having tasked some LBA to hit the ground forces there. I am considering a spoiling attack on the base.

The really annoying part of this was that the forts were at 4 plus 97%, and are now at 3 +1%. It looks like one fort level went “POOF!”

It appears that the Japanese have lost interest in Northern Oz, which is a good thing because I am finally able to get some supply into those bases.

Operation San Francisco is underway with all ships at sea. This will be my first AE amphibious operation so it is not an overly complicated plan, but it should serve notice to the Japanese that the Allies will not be going quietly into the night.

Lahat was paras. I'd be looking next for a major landing at Benk, with Lahat being the other end of the railroad, pre-made. He has Oost, so he's in progress on 360 cut-off of Pbang. As I understand the code, if PBang doesn't have a retreat route the engineers WON'T trash the oil industry. They have to do it while retreating.

Djambi is also a para operation most likely. It's a fairly short walk from PBang if you can spare a garrison. I couldn't, so I bombed it from PBang for a long time. What do you have there?

Yup, those two empire engineer regiments at Zingers will prevent building a large level fort. It is the way eng work in combat. Supply is your life from this point forward. He can't get 2x1 and you cant build a fort beyond level 1 or 2 depending on his attack frequency

Mis-clicks and a Base Too Far


Operation San Francisco is on hold until we can find out where the KB’s disappeared off to. The TF’s for this operation are at their final hold point awaiting orders to proceed to the target, but the Japanese carriers have disappeared from sight in the DEI. A few turns ago a Dutch SS got off some torpedoes at a fleet carrier near Batavia; they all missed, but the Japanese apparently realized that a huge chunk of the Allied submarine force was patrolling the region. Shortly after that the Japanese CV’s left. Because of this power vacuum, the ABDA Air Force is returning to action. A couple of turns ago many Allied fighters appeared in the skies over Singapore to contest the daily bombing runs, shooting down a raft of bombers in the process. Nary a Japanese bomber has appeared since, although fighter sweeps search in vain for the now departed fighters.

Also, since the region is apparently clear of major warships, a couple of task forces that have been hiding in Soerabaja are sneaking out of port to create some Hate and Discontent.

For the most part little has happened in the past several turns, but the action is about to ramp up some.

A small Japanese task force was mis-assigned by Skyros according to an email from him. The TF was supposed to be going to Mersing but showed up in Singapore harbor by mistake:
