I think you should quit trying to explain the mod John. Half are saying that Japan is overpowered and the other half are saying that the Allies are overpowered. Must be about right now.

Well, you could let the players decide. ra6.0 oould be w/ extra p38s. Then RA6.1 could be without extra p38s.

Hi John,

just my two cents about your (or rather Dan's) problems with your RA mod:

By adding 9th Air Fleet you allowed the Japanese player to deploy more planes in frontline units (that is: more planes are available in combat units) which certainly has some unbalancing effects. However, the main problem is not a result of your mod, but of you and Dan playing with player defined upgrades. PDU on has a very unbalancing effect on any AE game (stock and mods), because it allows the Japanes player always to deploy the best planes available to him everywhere, while the Allied player is stuck with the planes the Allies got historically. I think this effect on the game is already well understood, but it doesn't hurt to point it out again.

If you really want the Allies to be competitive in air combat with PDU on, you can just add static (that is: permanently restricted) Allied airgroups at the US West Coast and in the UK and give them plane types that did not make it into the PTO/CBI (certain Spitfire, Warhawk, Thunderbolt, Halifax etc. models). If your mod is played with PDU on, this will allow the Allied player to somewhat counter the effects of PDU by making use of the planes (plane types) contained in those static air groups.

KG: Thanks for the commentary. I appreciate the ideas and proposals.

Michael and I just talked and we are looking at doing a small bump in Allied Production. Keep in mind that the Allies DO start with additional squadrons deployed in RA. The Allies have roughly 100 extra aircraft deployed as bonus due to several other variations of the timeline leading to RA's Dec 7th. There is a Squadron of Hurricanes added to Singapore, the Pensacola Convoy (in this case the Charlotte convoy) deploys 2 P-40s Squadrons and THREE A-24 Squadrons at Darwin. Another pair of Squadrons are deployed along with the Dutch getting extra starting planes. The Charlotte brings an additional Naval Fighter and SBD Squadrons to the plate as well.

This is why I seek to clarify misconceptions floating out there regarding the Mod. It is much more balanced then Allied players know. The question is how to help 'nudge' allied production without reversing the goal of this Mod for 1942/1943. a much more competitive/stronger IJN.

Put the P-38s back like stock and raise the P-47s by 15 per month. That will put the increase into 1943/1944 instead.

One thing that makes a big difference down the line is the training units. That will really help the US air units to compete starting about mid 1942.

As always, let me preface that I am an AFB. I played early RA all the way to The Bitter End. I think fighter production is good pre 6.0. I still believe (and posted) bomber production towards the end is seriously pooched. Advanced Japanese fighter production, plus AA upgrades, plus the draw down (historical) bomber production vs the still viable (mod) Japanese Air Force will cause someone to have serious issues in mid '44 to '45

As I see it we are ready for release.

The only reason I hold off at the moment is waiting to the see what John comes up with with his aerial combat modifications. Am VERY interested in adding that to the Mod.

Do people want this released NOW or wait a week for JWE's work?

Got input from two of the developers of RA to release 6.0 prior to JWE/Symon's ATA work being done. We shall do this. Need to do some fine-tuning and put together the specifics and outline of changes made. My personal preference is to wait on John's work getting done with the ATA model but we can make the Mod available for player prior to that.

Need to get the password to the RA Site. Until then--if you are interested please email me your email and I shall send the files in a Zipped Folder. Will also bump the 'how to install a mod' thread over in the war room so you have the basics of how to do the install.

Let us have some fun!

Agreed

I think the Mod will be better and showcase a newer ATA Model but releasing as is gets some people into the game quicker. I shall wait for a new game until then.
