Autosave

Civil War 2 is the definitive grand strategy game of the period. It is a turn based regional game with an emphasis on playability and historical accuracy. It is built on the renowned AGE game engine, with a modern and intuitive interface that makes it easy to learn yet hard to master.
This historical operational strategy game with a simultaneous turn-based engine (WEGO system) that places players at the head of the USA or CSA during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

Autosave

Post by Javakamp »

I got about 6 months into my April '61 campain, and the game crashed dumping me to the main menu. That's when I realized I was having so much fun I had not saved. Doh!

This made me wonder if there could be an option to automatically save the game every X turns.

But the upside when I restarted I could do a better job, becasue of what I had learned the 1st time.

The game already autosaves automatically, but it sounds like you’ve run into the old problem with AGEOD’s game engine of playing too long in one stretch. If the game crashes like it has for you, it would corrupt the current turn. In the past you could simply rename one of the save folders to save 1 to get your game back, but so far I have been unable to locate the new save folder so I can’t advise you how to recover your game. Someone from AGEOD will have to chime in on that one.

You need to exit and restart the game after every three to four turns to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thanks also for the advice, Jim. I typically play only one turn of RUS a night, so it never happened to me.

I navigated to this folder on my PC, but Windows shows the folder as empty; however, I'm currently playing a game, which I've already saved. I'm I missing something?

You don't have to manipulate files yourself, just open the load game window and click on the processor icon (after selecting a game), then you can restore a previous turn.

Right now, we don't have identified any significant memory leaks and you should be able to play dozens of turns in a row...

Thanks Pocus. I was only puzzled as to why I can access a game through the load game window, but it does not appear in this folder.
