Identification

Post by El Savior »

I have few questions regarding identification.

1. Is there rule for bad weather visual ID? In really bad weather is should be harder to visual ID and in some cases it should be almost impossible. Example target is flying slower or faster.

2. Is there chance for misidentification? Example some ships looks very similar.

3. Can we send false EW signal and pretend to be something else?

I guess it would be neat for some scenarios to really surprise. Is there human factor in identification? Or can we mod it?

Yes. Both bad weather and light conditions affect detection, classification and precise-ID ranges. Visual and IR sensors are affected differently (darkness impairs visual, humidity kills IR).

No, but since now a scen designer can arbitrarily add components to a platform without going through the database, there is nothing stopping you from e.g. taking a normal civilian container ship and putting some camouflaged Club-K launchers on it. Presto: Wolf in sheep's clothing.
3. Can we send false EW signal and pretend to be something else?
Yes, some sensors masquerade as another sensor. For example almost all nav radar sets (Don-2s etc.) appear like standard Decca sets. So you may see a flood of Decca-emitting ships in a passage and some of them may be civilian and other military or other types. Likewise for radar decoys etc.
