[NO REPRO] RTB?

Post by ccnorman »

What am I doing wrong? I right-click on the aircraft and select RTB but the aircraft still run out of fuel and crash.

Thanks.

Hi Carl

The air unit has to have a home base set. When viewing an individual unit there is an assigned base field in the unit status menu on the right side of the UI that tells you what that base is. If it doesn't right click the unit, click select home base from the drop down and select an air facility that can host it. You can then click RTB and it should do as its told.

If this is a homegrown scenario and you add the unit in the air you will need to set this. If you add the unit to the airbase then it will pick that airbase by default.

If this was an included scenario let me know which one so I can take a look.

Thanks!

I'm having problems sending my F-14s home on the first Tutorial scenario, when they're in an AAW Patrol mission.

Their home base was already set. I reset it just to be sure after the first try failed. Their status is set to "RTB (As Ordered)(RTB)" but they always switch back over to "Unassigned (RTB)" before getting back.

I've also removed them from their assigned AAW Patrol mission using the >> button to place them back in their home base list of available aircraft, but they still stick to the AAW patrol area with the "Unassigned (RTB)" status, even after re-ordering an RTB.

There must be something I'm missing.

During all these attempts to place a couple of these aircraft back under manual control, and take them off AI control for the designated mission, I've realized how much I'd love to have an order on the rt-click list that would forcibly remove the unit from it's Mission and place it under direct player control. Is there a quick order like that available somewhere already? If not, can we have one?

NK can you save and post the file if handy. Best to take a look and see if we can sort it out.

I'll log a request for a clear button of some sort.

I'll do some further testing on the Air Mission thing. Didn't record that one when it was happening, and had quit the game.

It may have had something to do with the Auto Evasion AI. It would occasionally go Defensive (not sure if they were always being shot at) then it would just revert back to Unassigned with the RTB order and commence loitering again in the SAM envelope.

It's probably something to do with the Auto Evasion not wanting to relinquish control to manual, even after the Defensive Maneuvers were over. I began to wonder if this could be the issue when I was running North Carolina in the second tutorial and had to constantly uncheck the "Automatic Evasion" option in order to get it to fire torpedoes through it's forward arc. The Auto Evade would take over when an enemy torpedo was detected and instantly turn away so that the the bearing to target would quickly be out of what I suspect was the firing arc restrictions.

No problem with the Auto Evade quickly evading. It's good to have that auto evade on by default, and I found the pop-up window option where you can set it to pause on new contacts (huge help that one!) to help give me time to issue fire commands before the turn. However, I would really like to see the 'Auto Evasion' checkbox option available on the main screen, in the unit orders menu on the right side. I'm sure the real estate there can be tight if you're trying to fit all this onto the smallest resolutions (like netbook size) but I found myself turning Auto Evasion on and off constantly, just commanding one sub. It would save a lot of extra clicking and I'm thinking this is the probably the 'AI Override button' I was originally asking for.

EDIT: Also.. I'm not familiar with the recorder and playback yet. I just hit Record on the last half of my latest scenario but only found the little playback menu that runs only a step at a time. Is that the only playback functionality for it? No real-time playback? Do I have to load the save game file in order to bring up it's recording or is there a separate menu solely for playback somewhere?

The U key should clear the AI control.

Of the five blue buttons on the playback window, the middle one (the one with the 3 "play" icons bunched together) is the one that enables continuous playback. The ones before and after it are for single-step back wards and forwards respectively.

Unable to replicate this issue in Build 588.
