Unit Modifications

Post by AlphonseZukor »

From what I understand you can change the names of units in the game, but can you change the values?

Also is anyone else thinking of possible mods for this game, divisions only for example, or hexagon based oceans?

It is my understanding that you will be able to change both names and unit values.

The mods you describe require major programming changes and I don't think I'm speaking out of turn to say they are not being considered. Steve has enough on his plate finishing the game, adding AI, PBEM etc

Sea areas are an intrinsic part of the World in Flames naval system.

So wait, correct me if I'm wrong, but would it be possible to say, shrink the force pool of one or more nations? I've always felt there were too many units cluttering up the board in late game, and while I think that my tinkerings would probably break more things than they solve, I'd be interested in at least trying them out.

Other than not playing with options that add units and scrapping everything you can as soon as it is 3 years old (3 when active, 4 yrs if not), or gets destroyed --- No.

Such an undertaking would be easier to try with Vassal.

Not real easy to do, but doable.

You could simply change the unit's arrival date, to say 1948. 1954 wouldn't work because the game stores dates as an offset from 1936 (I think) and only has a few bits (4?).

Trust the guy who wrote the program to come up with the easiest way to mod it... [8|]
