Can you attach the files (think you have to zip them). I'll take a look.

Mike

Thanks Mike...I am trying one more thing and if that doesn't work, I will put them up here for you...thanks.

Figured it out with the help from another forum friend....I just wasn't zooming in enough to see the image.  Working well, thanks.

I made a quick video on how to add custom overlays to Command.
Only that I am not allowed to post links in the forum yet.

But you will find it on Youtube by searching for:
Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations - How to add custom Overlays

Maybe it's helpful for some of you. Just ignore my german accent and my butchering of the english language. [:)]

Sure, no problem. It was a nice quick video which should help people. I know it would have helped me if I didn't figure it out beforehand.

I've used this a bit this weekend. Couple of things i found... BingSatellite is the best for those "Google Earth" type of images, (this is using the GMAP system). However the ArcGIS_topo_US_2 at zoom 10 look great, they of course are not photographic images but give a good "tactical" feel and also have lots of info about the area and of course have all the topo data . Command is however messing with these images a little and upon load they are a little blurred. They tend to be white so you may want to do an invert using an image package such as Gimp.
Also worth noting that GMAP is using little or no compression. Using Gimp and re-saving with compression set to '9' made a 112MB image into a 83MB image. Not massive but it's a single 'export as png' action.

Finally, just in case some folks didn't realise, you can load several layers at different levels of fidelity. Layers are drawn over each other in the order that you added them, last layer draws on top. However you can real simple burn transparent holes (using something like Gimp) so that you can see the layer underneath. So for instance on the first tutorial mission in Nevada (?) i have the standard layer showing a rough version of the whole of the US, a custom satellite layer showing the layer in good fidelity around the whole scenario area, this has a transparent section at the airbase, and i have have a final very detailed, very small satellite image of the airfield itself where you can see individual planes.

PS.. it would be neat if i could select a 'z' value for each layer when loading them to show the draw order.

In a scenario the CMANO PdL Design Team we use a overlay of a map of Georgian roads to make a convoy of ground units follow a certain road between two towns, the scenario is based in Georgian-Russian war of 2.008

I too have been playing with gmap and the possibility of photo scenery at strike sites or even an entire country is tempting. I'm finding the same as the poster above, creating an entire country is possible by using multiple custom files. As an example the state of Florida can be rendered at zoom level 15 if broken up in to 4 files. 17 zoom if broken up in to 16 files. It seems if the area is too large and the zoom to high it will crash gmap, I'm using the demo version though. I'm curious to know if other also have this issue when using a large area with high zoom 17?

for some reason 17 zoom processed but won't load, it shows up in the custom layer and allows me to add it but the image/map never changes. Also having issues getting anything to work at zoom level 17, the program throws an error 5 out of 6 times.

Thanks for the video (and link). Most useful and following it through whilst making some layers for a scenario I`m working on.

First attempt at layer and its does not appear to line up with the coast line. Will this cause a problem? Will the game think the building is actually in the sea ? or it it just a pictorial representation ?

What are you guys using to convert the images is it demo.windowsforms.exe (gmap)? Seem I can't use zoom level 17 with this software, the highest I've gotten is zoom 15. When using zoom 17 I get error.system.argument:paramert not valid at system.drawing.bitmap.ctor(int32 width, int32 height, pixelformat format)at demo windows forms statucimage.bg_dowork.

Thats what I`m using. Are you entering the data in the box highlighted in yellow in the image below ?

In fact, I just tried entering any value and it defaults to 17.

Paul sometimes you're not going to get a 100% match. This is because the layers are from two different sources. This is the nature of open source imagery. As long as their is terrain under it (has an elevation) you can add the facility.

If something is really off in terms of terrain let us know. We do have somebody that can fill holes[:)]

Yes Entering the number in the same box as you have highlighted. I think it may be the size of the area I'm trying to map, if I only select an airfield I can use zoom of 17, but if I expand that out a bit - say size of a city I get the error mentioned unless I reduce the zoom. I'm not sure but appears there a limit to how big of a region it will convert. As a test I selected the entire united states and can create a worldfile at zoom level 11 but not 12 or higher.
