One sweep radar

Post by RockKahn »

I don't recall whether it was RSR or Harpoon, but I was able to intermittently do one sweep with a radar or one ping with my sonar, move on, then sweep or ping, again. I don't believe the user has the ability in Command to do that. When I have radar/sonar on in Command, is the AI doing intermittent pings/sweeps, whenever it feels it's appropriate, or is it active all the time?

I used to use the one ping/sweep feature a lot. If it's not currently modeled in Command, I'd kind of like to see it added.

I often do just that by manually activating a unit/group's sensors for a few seconds then shutting them down. If you're lucky you'll get some contacts but enemy ESM won't register you. Doesn't always work but is a useful tactic.

That said I wish there was a way to program automatic periodic sensor use on unit/groups to the user's specifications in the game.

H3 let you set up intermittent scans with sensors. Don't see that with Command. The other thing H3 let you do, IIRC, was set up a sensor sweep on a waypoint. Then on the next waypoint, shut it down.

Run it in real time and select the sensor you want to sweep. By all means check to see if one sweep will do it, but in reality 3 sweeps is more realistic with modern radars for various reasons to do with processing and detection probability and it would not surprise me at all with this game, if this integration was modeled (every thing else seems to be very close to reality [;)])

Definitely. In fact often the first sweep just provides positional location. Altitude, heading, speed, etc may take a few more, depending on the radar.

Yeah. IIRC there were other options available, like intermittent sweeps, percent on/off, etc. They were all useful depending on the situation. I'd like to see them all available in Command someday. Until then, I'll run it manually as you guys have suggested.
