More info on game?

Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series and focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

Hi lyonsajh,

This game covers operation Epsom, also called the battle for the odon as the British tried to capture the southern outskirts of Caen with a piercing attack. However to achieve this goal they had to cross several obstacles and face some of the new arrived panzer divisions before they could counter attack and drive the Allied forces back into the channel

Technically Gateway to Caen (GtC) is based on PitF and comes with quite al lot of improvements.
Currently I'm working together with Cathartes on this game and we're redeveloping all of the graphics, data, sounds and effects.

There's more information coming soon!

Kind regards,
Conrad

Hope too see more information. there are too many sources about operation Epsom in net and books , there are a good source of 1944 aerial pictures, about the battle fields , detail information about day to day account and order of battle.

If all come to throw it will be amazing.

If you have more detail information available about the game it will be very great full. Point to main story line ( Epsom ) is only first step and didn't give any view about this title.

In regards to the scope of Operation Epsom, Gateway to Caen will focus primarily on the attack of British VIII Corps from the first objectives on June 26, 1944 through the German counterattacks that followed until the beginning of July.

Are the planned improvements going to be retroactive to PitF in some sort of Patch?

Would be good if the new code changes/improvements were added into PiTF so that future mods could work on it and this new release....

Well, this looks like a possible buy depending on how things turn out.

Late western front...again...but at least a new battle to fight which is a relief.

MikeGER,

The release of Gateway to Caen is currently planned for first quarter of next year. So, no, not before Christmas.

Hey Steve.

Thanks for all your magnificent work!

I am a Mac user and by using Crossover (A program that can run windows software on Mac), I successfully ran close combat series on my macbook air, even the latest PITF version. The whole setting process can be done in just 3 mins. Then I can install the game. There is no bugs, lags or any other problems. You can register and upgrade it just like on Windows platform. It can also run on fullscreen mode and window mode as well.

Thanks to Wineskin, you can wrap the game as a .dmg or .app file, both are standard Mac file types. So I think there is no technique issue running this series on Mac. I can even send you a sample. I bought the game but changed my computer from PC to Mac. But with this method I can play the game on Mac OS. I believe there will be lots of Mac users who want to buy this game because Mac system has far less games than PC.

Again, I believe there is no technique issue for this game, so you may find a way to cooperate with Aspyr Media, Feral Interactive, GOG.COM or Apple App Store. I will definitely buy the CC GTC and CC The Bloody First because I can run them on Mac too. But still I wish there will be a Mac version.

P.S. I think Unity 3D can also run perfectly on Mac OS platform.

Hi linlishuo,

Thanks for the information. I understand there are various ways to get a Windows program running on a Mac, but this is distinct from a game designed and built for the Mac OS. What I was saying is that we are not making a version of the game designed for the Mac. If people can get it running on a Mac that's a bonus but if there are problems we won't be able to help much. :)
