Thoughts about tutorial 1

Post by Lützow »

I'm thinking about what would be the best approach for tutorial 1 (basic air operations), given the fact that it takes time to get every plane airborne but one has a continuous stream of vampires once the first Tomcat's are launched.

Should I setup a AAW patrol with the first group of Tomcat's already or rather waiting until more groups are airborne?

Does it makes sense to give the Corsair's fighter escorts or should I assign them to dedicated AAW and ground strike missions?

What are the primary objectives in order to take down opposing defense. Tall King, runway, all radar stations?

Thank you for the link.

Gathering all units on a formup point outside of opposing radar range is a smart move.

In the Beta 1.01 patch, your airbase is placed further away giving you time to get planes airborne before you are attacked.

Well, actually it's not placed further away and I installed the 1.01 RC2.

Regarding AAR screens from sugarfreegamer, there should be two friendly bases. One close to the enemy within radar range and another one to the NE from first, called NAS Fallon (Training Location). All I have is the closer NAS Fallon, without "Training Location".

It also doesn't seem to be easy keeping the fighters passive. I had set a RP to NE of NAS Fallon, created a support mission and assigned all Tomcats to it. Doctrine is set to maintain standoff: yes. However, they're not only shooting Bogey's (what is ok, I guess), but also keep flying toward enemy direction instead of leaving the danger zone ASAP.

I launched two flights of F-14s immediately and assigned them to a BARCAP each. Fangs-out, with permission to prosecute unconfirmed targets, they will splash all enemy fighters from about 20 miles, giving you air superiority for all ground ops.

Did you install RC2 on top of v1 or on top of RC1? (You should do the latter).

Guess I missed it and just replaced the .exe from v1.0 with the one from B439.

Thank you, now it works.

I think the version I was playing at the time of that write up was Beta 438.
