Should I buy it ? and why !

Take command of air and naval assets from post-WW2 to the near future in tactical and operational scale, complete with historical and hypothetical scenarios and an integrated scenario editor.

Hey, you gotta start somewhere! [:D]

Try it again and play around with the mission editor, including setting ROE/EMCON. See what happens. Or move into the one from the '80s with anti-ship missiles, those are a little more forgiving for newbies than '50s era guns & torps.

Hi, I love modern (particularly WW3) theaters, strategy or even better, grand strategy games...
Reasons, Shmeasons.
Since you've already bought it, my guess would be you only needed the part I bolded.
For that reason you will continue to play, then the game's "architecture and execution will
keep you locked in[:D].

So to summarize (and to be fair toword the devs and Matrix);

- My initial impression was that it's a disaster and my money is lost.
- My second impression was, as said in my above post, that it seems interesting and worth invest some time.

And now, my third impression is that I'm VERY excited about the potential of the game which seems to be the perfect concept, the game awaited for years and years !

Once the game will be improved with sounds, images and tool tips it could become nothing less than ...

THE ULTIMATE MASTERPIECE ! [&o]

Yes !!!

Also valid for those that are still on the fence...

I was on the other side at start, I mean those that questioned the price, I must confess (ok, I regreat I few things I posted [8|]
Couple days later I purchased it and gave it a try. As I´m an editor geek (I dont know why developers keep doing missions for me[:D] ) the first thing I did was messing with it.
A very personal experience follows:
I thought on a few missions and planned them as historically accurate as possible... And then, litterally, Command decimated me, with well placed SAMs and AAA. It was frustrating... Next day while going to work I thought... "Ok, they do this... Maybe I could do this... (if you want I can send you a personal message on all the details). Waited until wife was at bed, kids sleeping, and tried again... to absolute success!!
What.A.Joy.
I went to bed happy as a little kid.
Didn´t felt that for years. Belive me.
For me that was enough. I knew I had spent my money in the right thing, two days later!!

Not very detailed technical data, but worked for me.

nukxx..this probably isn't the best wargame to go for if your not experienced. However as you now know once you start to learn great wargames become something to cherish and immerse yourself with.

My first impression is ... how to say .... well, it's a disaster ! ;-)
Looks unplayable to me. I tried the first tutorial and directions were so unclear that I barely managed to take off my planes and then I was completely lost. Screens look like everything but a game. Is it a hardcore version of Harpoon ?

huh ?

I just replayed the first tutorial and this time I had a great fun and of course, I was able to perfectly understand all what I did ;-)
Of course, there's a large room for improvement of my technique and many aspects of the simulator are still obscure to me but the game is ... WOW ! Impressive.

Here's my L&E report. (comments welcome)

At first glance I thought- this looks like a modern version of Grigsby's War in the Pacific AE? Is that true or comparable?

I've gotten years of enjoyment out of Witp AE. Would there be a similar years of enjoyment playing PBEM games with this? Thanks

It's real time so no PBEM. And no multi so far ... :-(

It's not like WIP. I would say this is not really a strategy game, rather a simulator of modern operations. Fascinating.

It seems to me easier to get in than WIP. But don't worry, it's extremely complex ! ;-)
The main point is that it is extremely realistic.

Ok just to add some reasons (for other readers too) to go for CMANO:

If you read one of the following books....:
- Red Storm Rising
- The Sixth Battle
- The War That Never Was
- Red Phoenix
- Team Yankee (not naval but WWIII.. maybe for interested Folks regarding the game "Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm")
- etc.
... and if you are eager to participate in an Operation too => I think it's obvious that CMANO is the way to go. Even some scenarios from the above mentioned books are available to play which is incredible nice. (Not to forget mentioning the Red Storm Rising campaign in "Dangerous Waters" for people who want to go tactical and change their perspective aka "what it's like down there".)

If all this isn't enough: "Harpoon Ultimate Edition" for more WWIII stuff just in case and still worth mentioning too. So you have hundreds of hours of enjoyment in all kinds of Situation you ever wished for.

I don't know if you know this but you can download database images and descriptions from warefare sims website, they do add a bit of flavor to the game. (http://www.warfaresims.com/?page_id=1876)

Having read all but Sixth battle, I agree. Now if only I could find a copy of The Sixth Battle that is not a used Mass Market Paperback. I would like to be able to read it more than once. There really should be an E-Book version.

* Read the manual (I noticed you mentioned you did that after playing a couple of times - this isn't really a game you can just figure out from the menus)
* For an air tutorial try the Mark's British aircraft in Uganda (don't have it running so I don't remember the exact name). It's easier to manage than than that NTC - Fallon exercise (well, other than managing not to bomb a hospital or the city hall in Entebbe, which I seem to be unable to avoid doing :-) )
* Look at the scenario listings. At the top you can order them by complexity. It's an arbitrary designation but in general, the lower the complexity the fewer units, so start with those first before graduating to the bigger ones, no matter how tempting the names sound.
* Download the community scenario pack. MANY more scenarios in there, and you'll find a good selection of fairly small ones to work on.
* Baloogan YouTube channel has many videos of game run throughs and semi-tutorials. There are others too.
* Check out a lot of what's available in the NEW PLAYERS- READ HERE thread in the upper section of the main forum. Lots of useful links in there.

The game has a fairly big learning curve. However, you'll be rewarded. You can look up any of those weapons and platforms and read about them, either in the game database, the online databases that have been created, or google the real life weapons.

Stick around the forums. The developers are unbelievably helpful and responsive, and there are many people here with lots of game experience and lots of real life experience with the systems in the game. Every time I come here I learn stuff. And I'm already a real life expert in some of these things :-)

Ask questions on the forum if you are stumped. You'll find the people here extremely helpful.

Good luck
