Following plotted course

Post by ParachuteProne »

Anyone having trouble getting ships to follow a plotted course.

I had ships which were assigned to no mission. There was an unknown contact which they were moving towards but I couldn't get them to turn away. Even when the unknown fired torpedos at them.

I tried the "U" unassign as well as using the drop down menu.
Tried Dropping all contacts.
Even tried assigning them to a patrol mission in the opposite direction but no way, they just moved toward the unknown and to their doom.

You have to zip the file in order to upload to the forum. Use winzip or 7-zip or winrar to zip a file

Looks like all your units are assigned to a mission in the mission editor.

Group 147 is actually assigned to ASW mission which is why it never intercepts the ships. If you set a plot before it will follow that plot first (this is our way of chaining a little bit) and the mission will activate at plots end. You can just delete the plot (press F3)

Group 202 is assigned to a ferry mission. That one actually isn't meant for that. If possible use a transit.

Group 129 is set to a ship patrol

Did it occur when they were being fired on?

Holy Crap! I never knew this. How did I miss it. That is incredibly important and helps me with some of missions.

Group 202 is the one I couldn't plot.
Under missions I don't see where it was assigned to ferry. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong spot.
(I'm looking in the "units assigned to mission box)The only ferry mission I made has no units assigned - I think :). That mission started as a helicopter ferry mission.

Group 202 was fired on by a sub but did not evade and I couldn't turn it around.
Is there a command that will clear a group or unit of all missions so you can plot them ?
unassign didn't seem to work.

Be glad when I get the manual
And you will likely be glad too :)
Can't stand PDF manuals

Perhaps I'm using missions incorrectly.
If you are not sure of the threat what should you assign for a patrol mission ?
If an ASW patrol mission won't attack ships I assume an ASU patrol mission won't attack subs?
Or is that what the ASU mixed mission is for ?
Instead of missions should I just be plotting my ships and subs ?
