Duplicated BDA status change messages (with beta)

Post by kaburke61 »

Is anybody (with either 438 or 439) seeing multiple status contact change messages? Instead of just one message (it seems to be centered around the message changing status of damage/fire/flooding.), I get anywhere from 5 to 20+ of the same thing for the same contact.

I should add I have seen it in the First Contact - 57 (as Soviets), and the Operation Market Time (I think that's the other - not 100% - definitely saw it in FC 57) scenarios.

I mentioned it to the dev's (in a thread or 2), but they I guess are too busy, and never responded to whether or not they got the save file or have seen it.

If nobody else is seeing it, I was going to uninstall/reinstall, as maybe I messed something up installing the beta releases.

Thanks

I have never seen it...and unfortunately, I have had many chances to have it happen.

Thanks for the help,

I changed the first post to mention that I have seen it in the First Contact - 57 (as Soviets). And one other (just can't remember which, I play a lot).

yes, i see those all the time; typically around 10 repetitions of the same message.
has become so common for me i don't remember which scenarios exactly, seems to be all of them...

OK...thanks for the reply. I figured it was probably code related. It wouldn't be that big a deal except I sometimes like to have contact changes "pop up", and well, having to hit the continue button 20 times gets to be a pain. Also it can scroll other info off the screen.

The dev's have never acknowledged they got my savefile, or even that there is a problem related to this....oh well, they are certainly busy with other fixes/etc.

Hi Kevin,

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier but as you've correctly guessed we're "slightly" busy.

We looked at your save example and were unable to reproduce this problem. Of course this doesn't mean it's not there, it's already been confirmed in fact, just that we haven't so far been able to recratre the conditions that will reproduce it reliably and allow us to change the code to prevent it.

As an extra diagnostic step (and an ancillary gameplay benefit), from B439 we have added on the BDA message the name of the unit that performs the BDA. So you will see e.g. "Growler #2 provides a BDA update on Target #7: [....]". This helps the player better understand which units are better able to perform the BDA and also helps us do a better "walkthrough" of the problem if it appears.

So next time you encounter this problem please send us a save along with the message log.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Sounds great...I know how much fun intermittent bugs can be (retired Intel Corp. software engineer myself).

Nice mod, the more info the better.

Will do on the savefile and message log.

Thanks for the help,

Kevin

Reminds me of this issue I had with New Contact messages appearing three times in the message log.

It still does that in 439 with that particular save. Haven't ever else encountered it though I think.

Hi Kevin,

You'll be glad to know that we finally managed to get this reproduced and fixed. It was literally the very last item for Build 440.

Thanks to both you and Primarchx for bringing this up!
