Airpower

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Airpower

Post by Cataphract88 »

Hi,

I was just wondering, how are aircraft (apart from the helicopters) represented in the game?

Aircraft are held off map until they are assigned an air strike order by either the player or the AI. The Air unit then conducts the attack on the selected unit/location after resolving the attacks by any enemy ADA assets in the area. The aircraft can be assigned a radius of up to 1000 to 1500 meters in that it will select a target hex within that radius to attack. Then the strike goes in, it attacks all targets in the target hex.

The aircraft are set by the scenario designer. They include close air support and some level bombers. They can be affected by bad weather. They can be set to come and go at various times by the scenario designer. A good number of types and load outs are in the database.

If you have other questions fire away.

Will there be air to air combat resolution?

No, sorry, not air to air combat resolution. The scenario designer determines the air to air superiority in the way he assigns or does not assign air assets.

The air superiority fight is a step outside the games scope. The scenario designer provides close air missions based on having local air space control.
