Feature Request: Wikipedia or Web button for Database Viewer

Post by Temple »

I got this idea from playing Crusader Kings II. In that game, there is a Wikipedia button next to the ruler's portrait and it's active if it was a real person. Clicking the button brings up your browser to the appropriate Wikipedia page.

I'm wondering if the same thing could be done for the database viewer window. Clicking the button would do an API call (I'm guessing on the terminology, bear with me) to your browser with the entity name and Wikipedia as the attributes. That way you wouldn't have to code every database entry with a separate, unique call.

This also might be implemented by making the database entry name in the database viewer window a clickable link, instead of a separate button.

Obviously not a show stopper, just a thought.

I'm all for this, would love the database to contain hotlinks, so if I'm viewing aircraft I can click on the weapons hotlink to see the weapon then have a go back button to go back where I was.

Yes, this would be great. It would be nice to be able to read a general description of the unit in addition to all the statistical info in the DB

I dont see this happening. people may have issues with how data in the DB and wikipedia would differ. It would just start too many forum fires.

Don't we already have perfectly reasonable explanations for a few existing differences?
I would like higher levels of realism, while trying to keep the ability to alter that at key moments,
spontaneity, but built on a foundation of realism. That way we will always be able to enjoy the sim.

+1
Generally speaking there should be more clickable links everywhere. For example clicking on assets in the Air Ops should lead to the database.

I'd be happy if I could copy the name of the platform out of the DB to do a Wiki search in my own browser window.

This would be a good first step. And a quick-win as I guess this is definitely not hard to implement in the next patch. Would make our life much easier. Copy-paste instead of rewriting all text in google ;-9 [>:]
