Does anybody know which leaders get automatically promoted and when?

I'm a little OCD when it comes to having the right corps commanders at the right time. I spend a lot of time running around picking fights with certain generals trying to get them promoted in time. lol

Related: is there any way to tell from the big list which generals are eligible for promotion? I hate to have to click through every stack...
