Turn based or pausable real time?

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Turn based or pausable real time?

Post by FroBodine »

I apologize if this has been discussed already, but from reading the store page details and browsing this forum, I cannot tell if this game is turn-based or real time? It looks fantastic, but I am really only interested if it is turn-based.

So, how does this game work, please?

Thanks. I am not exactly sure how WEGO works. Can someone elaborate on how the turns work in this game, please?

It is really an asynchronous turn based system. Each side issues orders and the turn is resolved until the next players command cycle is due. That player issues or updated unit orders and play continues until the next orders phase comes due. Each players command cycle is dynamic and can change during resolution with loss of command units, electronic warfare, and readiness drops. It is possible to get your command cycle down and the enemies up enough to go more than once per there cycle. Basically a dynamic turn based system.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Thank you very much, Jim. That was very helpful, and the system sounds fantastic.
