command range

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

command range

Post by Duck Doc »

I have been through the manual a couple of times and can't find anything about command range. Is there a definite command range subordinates have to obey without penalty? Or whatever? Love the game and can't wait for the weekend to get into it.

Well that's a bit of an oversight on my part. [:(]

Yes there is and it can be different by Nation and HQ type.

US Forces/UK Forces
Regiment / Brigade Command Radius 6000 meters
Battalion/Squadron Command Radius 4000 meters
Company/Troop Command Radius 2000 meters

West Germans
Regiment / Brigade Command Radius 6500 meters
Battalion/Squadron Command Radius 4500 meters
Company/Troop Command Radius 2500 meters

Soviets
Regiment / Brigade Command Radius 5500 meters
Battalion/Squadron Command Radius 2500 meters
Company/Troop Command Radius 1500 meters

This info is in the National Tab of the countries data file. I will add this to the errata thread as well.

OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

If you're in the game, your unit info also tells you what range (in hexes) to their HQ is required to stay in command.

It also shows if it is out of command range by being coded in red on the OOB Tree.

Good Hunting.

Thanks, Mad Russian. Very helpful. What is the penalty for being out of command?

Effects of being out of Command Range: [:@]

Delays in order resolution.
Resupply less than optimal.
Artillery can't fire specific missions. Is only on Open Order and Counter Battery call.
Units can't use assault movement.

If I've forgotten any the rest of the team will chime in. [&o]

Good Hunting.
