Select side

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi,
So far all the scenarios I tried are one-sided despite the fact that the game asks me to select my side [but in fact there's no choice].

Why that ?

How could I try a scenario from both sides ?

When you load a scenario you will first see a window with the briefing for the default side. On top of that window you will see a "Side:" label and a drop-down list with all the playable side for that scenario.

Yes this is my point : most scenarios, in fact all the ones I opened so far, have just one playable side in the drop down. I probably didn't try enough scenarios ?
I was expecting that ALL scenarios would be two-sided to be able to replay from the other side perspective.

Duelists is a 2-sided scenario. I prefer to write single-sided scenarios as it provides a cleaner presentation to the player. When you play Duelists you'll see a ton of RPs already on the map when you start. This is to facilitate missions that would be run if the side you chose was AI. I like to present a clear map, with RPs present only to label important areas to the player. This can only really be done with a single-side scenario.

In creating a good AI opponent I will use multiple opposing forces, each with their own forces, missions and sensor configs. Since you can only play one side, switching to another side wouldn't work, as they are actually multiple sides. This isn't to say that multiple-sided scenarios aren't possible, and in fact I'm sure they can be done just fine. I've just found that single sided scenarios have worked best for me when optimizing player experience and layering the opposing side to create some interesting effects.

There should be an RP management tool.

Make RPs invisible/visible
Select RPs by name
select nav zones from that list
etc.

It's pretty new, I think, added not long before the game went Gold. It's under the Missions menu and simply de-selects all the Ref Points on the screen. This is very handy for when you're defining a mission area with RPs or want to rename a unit but an RP is secretly selected somewhere else.

I believe it was added in 1.01 (one of the RCs - or maybe just the hotkey was added then).
