That's a burst (4 shells fired at once in a clip) from a 40mm/70 Single Breda gun mount, exploding in flight (not on impact) 103m off a unit named K21, and it's happening at 22:56:33

OK, another question is this log :

23:03:08 - Contact: MCM #20 has been positively identified as: Hittine - Determined as: Hostile (ID by Sensor: Galileo OG R7/2 at Estimated 5 nm)

What is "Hittine" ?

I first thought it's the name of the contact but no, the contact is identified as :

#1483 - MT T-43 Class -- Syria (NAvy) 1966-D
(damn copy/paste function which is deactivated, have to type all text :-((((( )
No "hittine" here...

Hence my question.
Thx

OK, it was a stupid question .. Hittine is just the contact nickname, like "Vampire" right ?

It means that the contact was identified down to precise unit (ie. hull number / name in this case) instead of simply class-identified. It's the difference between "Nimitz class carrier" and "USS Eisenhower".

OK Thank you Sunburn !

Another question :

I had a contact identified as hostile despite the fact that it seems to be a cargo vessel. My first question is how is this possible as a cargo vessel doesn't seem to be a big threat ?

Then I have the following log;
One of my ships, the 312 Miznal attacks the Cargo Vessel and at the end, it seems we are badly dammaged by underwater explosions. What are these underwater explosions ? Where did I messed up ?

The DB viewer lists platforms in their pristine condition, not after having expended fuel, traded weapon blows, received/inflicted damage, and generally seen action.

What I can't understand is what/who did damage my ship, the Miznak. What mistake did I do and how could have avoid this debacle ?

It would seem to be either mines or a torpedo, and the fact of how many explosions are listed there would be a guess leaning towards mines.

Is it possible to check if mines are part of the scenario ? (Battle of La Latakia, 1973)

One way is to open it in the editor...although, I suspect the explosions are coming from torpedoes fired by the torpedo boats. They have nailed me several times.

No - it's not underwater mines or torpedoes. If you were firing at another contact at close range (which usually happens if you're down to guns/cannons), some of the hits will actually reverberate back at you. Not sure if that's really intended or not, but it has happened to me many times now. Maybe one of the devs can comment on this effect. I guess it comes from the fact that at close range, you're actually feeling some of the shock waves being fed back at you, especially if you manage to score hits.

I had a sub sink itself firing a torp at a ship way too close in yesterday exactly like that.

Or there is an error with the 40mm gun mount and you are "hitting yourself" when it fires. Either when shooting (maybe through yourself) or with too big a burst radius on the round when it impacts the target. If it were mines or torps your ship would be dead after a couple hits and these underwater explosions are time stamped and match the gun fire.

You know what? It's exactly the feeling I had. I would be happy if a DEV could comment.

If confirmed, then I have 2 questions:

1- is this realistic ?
2- if yes, then how could I avoid this effect ?

You brought the Miznak at point-blank range (probably a few meters at most) so it got some of the blast damage from the explosions on the target.

To avoid this, take control of the Miznak and keep some minimum distance (even 50-100m should be enough).

To make sure it will obey your plot order and not go off on its own, uncheck the "ignore plotted course when attacking" option in the Attack submenu.
