[Q] Tablet compatability

Post by strykerpsg »

I am looking at a Surface tablet to replace my iPad for my upcoming government travels. the specs are:

Display Type
ClearType HD (1920 x 1080)

Screen Size
10.6"

System Memory (RAM)
4GB

Storage Capacity
64GB

Operating System
Windows 8 Pro

Will CMANO work on this? Thanks in advance

We haven't tested Command on tablets. I would imagine that picking out units in the map, and handling the various UI elements (particularly stuff like scrollbars on grids etc.) would be more difficult with fingers.

LOL! Damn, that was quick! It does have a wireless mouse and a pen, so am hoping it works. It would be great for passing time on the flights.

I'm running CMANO on a Surface Pro 128GB. It runs fine, however I'm more comfortable with hooking the tablet to a 21in monitor and a wireles keyboard/mouse combo. Using the 10in display and the pen is possible (I've done it), just not as user-friendly as the classical keyboard and mouse input system.

Thanks amatteucci. The Surface Pro is exactly what I'm considering. Though I'll only play CMANO while travelling as I've already got a very robust laptop that operates it extremely well. I also liked the fact that the surface can use their mouse, keyboard and the pen. Thanks for the info, just waiting on the Surface 2 to appear before purchasing. Then, will have to figure out how to export my iBooks and magazines off the iPad.

amatteucci, just got my Surface Pro 2 today. Did you directly download off your account or install via an SD card? Also, got the mouse and keyboard cover. Seemed like a great fit.

Have you plugged in a USB mouse on the side? I can't get it to work just yet, but suspect it's user error on my behalf. So, doing a clean install and trying again, though I did purchase the Bluetooth mouse they offer as well as the keyboard/cover. So, keeping my fingers crossed, just have to charge the newer 128gb instead of the 64gb. Just found the 64gb gobbled up memory rather quickly once I began installing files and such.

Does CMANO work with Windows8.1? I can't get it to move beyond the menu screen. Potentially would there be an issue with the resolution of 1980x1020? Also, what's the minimum memory needed? I think it has 4gb.

Problem with CMANO is that there are many essential commands that are only accessible using keyboard hot keys. Would be nice for all commands to have a GUI equivalent.

I do have the attachable keyboard and Bluetooth mouse. What's funny is I can get Flashpoint campaigns, Panzer Corps and Great Commander to work great, just not CMANO. Very frustrating.

after several install and uninstalls, I am not convinced CMANO likes Windows 8.1. I cant get it to move beyond the startup screen and scrolling through the tech support forum, seems 8.1 causes much grief. I'm still waiting on Amateucci to reply on how he gor his to install. frustrating to say the least.

Solved! I thought turning off the tablet is how it reboots Windows, since there isn't the usual legacy windows sleep/restart/off switch. Man, they really moved much around in Win8.1

Tomorrow I'll try the mouse and missions. Sorry team for user error with win8.1

LOL! Thanks Dimitris, but figured it out. Operator head space and timing with an unfamiliar OS. More to follow

Ok, so now it works but I cannot get the main game screen to resize so I can read the sidebar. I am able to move the right side inward but the tool bar doesn't refresh to show magazine, damage, etc.

Here's a pic.

Hi Matt,

Is this on Win8 or 8.1? Also desktop font size is 100% or higher?

Thanks!

Windows 8.1 and font size is 100% or higher, I think. Windows 8.1 is a bit different than 7 but see all set accordingly. Frustrating because the title screen shows, just part of it cut out when I rearrange the windows. It's almost like something needs to be refreshed.

Gotta love figuring out a new OS. It was the dpi that needed to be adjusted. Apologies for being a pain in the arse, but it works great now.

Thanks for your patience.
