Units not taking supply

Ive noticed a couple of times that some of my units refuse to take in any supplys thereby raising thier fatigue.
Its happend after I drop off a unit using fast transport at Gili Gili where I land the unit in one TF and 1k supply in another. The unit lands with no supply and refuses to take any from the base.
Its also happened when I try to supply the units at Buka and Buin. They start with no supply and even after I land some they still wont use it and thier fatigue goes way up. Is there any way around this besides moving the units back to another base? Ive also noticed that no matter what on the first turn of Sen 17 or 19 if I try to send 2 Fast transport missions out of Rabual that one of the units will not take any of his own supply that he starts with no matter how many ships I use while the other unit will.

Supplies on hand are only part of the issue, could it be that you did not have adequate support?

Support is how the supplies get distributed. If there is inadequate support, the supplies do not get distributed as quickly, or even at all depending on how short you are required support.

In earlier experiments, it was shown that units will not draw supply unless there is 4x supply needed on hand.

Stick some more supplies on the base and you should see the unit draw supplies.

One question.
Why would a unit move without supplies that were assigned to it?
Its still happening when I move the units from Rabual using a Fast TF mission...If I do 2 missions one of the units doesnt take any supply with him no matter how many ships I use.

Fast Transport missions seem to be troops ONLY or supplies ONLY ... sometimes for some strange reason, the troops option (supplies and troops) is not greyed out when it actually should be...

Is that what is confusing you?

Additional note:

The game calculates how many ships are required to move that unit. Once it figures that out (lets say 3 out of the 5 ships in TF), it will NOT use the other 2 ships for anything.

This little "feature" will drive you nuts at times. ALWAYS make sure you select the destination for the mission BEFORE selecting the troops. If you don't, sometimes you will overload what can be unloaded at the destination in the allowed time, and be stuck there when the sun comes up...

Let me put it another way
Say we have the 84th and 85th Nav garrison units at Rabual.
Both have 350 supply assigned to them
I put the 84th on a 6 ship Fast TP and send it to Buna. It takes the 350 supply with it.
At the same time I put the 85th on a 7 ship Fast TP to Gili Gili and it doesnt take any of its assigned supply with him.
I checked to make sure that both units had enough support and they did.
Im at a total loss on why the 85th would leave its supply behind while its on the bigger fleet.
Any thoughts?

I had the exact same thing happen. I ended up with a Nvy Gsn unit at Gili-Gili with 1 supply and one at Buna with 350+- supply.
I loaded both TFs the same using the same sequence of keystrokes. I loaded both with the 'Load Troops' option, not the 'Load Troops Only' option. Set destinations first.

Ok, you got me baffled:

I just took two 1CL/3DD Fast Transport TF's and loaded the 85th on one and the 86th on the other.

One goes to Buna, the other goes to Gili Gili. Both take 2 turns to get there. Both land with their personal supplies. Both have 432 supplies when they hit the beach.

I can't reproduce what you are saying, unless it happened to be a unit that was out of supply when you picked it up...

Ok this has been bugging me so much its consumed my Sat night.
Ive been messing around trying to make it happen and not make it happen. I think I might have found the cause.
If I put more than 1 non DD in the fast task force the ground unit doesnt take supply with him.
If I only put one CL with the task force the ground unit takes the supply.
Can someone else try this and tell me if im nuts or not

Ok this is what I have found.
Start Sen 17 or 19 any setting.
Make 2 Fast Trans task forces.
#1 1CL or ML and 3 dds
#2 The left over CL's or ML..just make sure you use 2 of them and the rest of your dd's.
Both Task Forces are big enough to handle the Nav Garrison units.
Now load up a Nav Garrison unit in both task forces. It doesnt matter if you use Load only troops or Load Troops.
Send 1 TF to Buna and the other to Gili Gili.
In 2 turns ill bet ya that the Nav Garrison unit from #1 has its assigned supply and the one from #2 Doesnt.
You can play around with the CL's or ML as much as you like but it seems that if you have more than 2 in the TF you dont get the units supply. I havent tested this later on in the game. Ive only tested it with the start of Sen 17 and 19

Add another CL to one of those task forces and the unit wont land with its personal supplies. At least it wont for me.

Ok, this is getting really strange. I don't think you SHOULD be getting supplies carried with the unit.

Some strange reason, (who knows why?) you are magically getting some free supplies out of the deal. Don't complain, you shouldn't be getting them at all.

Follow this logic:

1 CL & 3 DD = 1200 capacity

85th = 818 load factor
+ 430 supplies carried

= 1248!

You wanna tell me why you expect 1248 to fit within 1200?

Obviously hit on a very specific bug that none of us actually reasoned out. If I take those exact same ships, they carry 800 supplies total so they obviously can't carry 1248!.

Somewhere in the code is a glitch that makes it miss taking the supplies away from the troops before putting them on the ship, and it ONLY seems to happen when you have exactly the right number of ships in the task force to carry the unit.

I not so sure that the load value has anything to do with it Mr. Fragg.

I made up a TF of 3 CL's and 6DD's with a load capability of over 2000 and sent it with the 85th to Gili Gili and it still didnt land with its personal supplies.

I then made a TF of 1 CL and 6 DD's with the 85th, sent it to Gili Gili and it landed with the supplies.

On both tests I used both the Load only Troops and Load Troops options.

Try your luck with USA troops & ships. I've not had supplies move once.

I looked up Richard Frank's book and it says when Japanese troops landed Guadalcanal by fast transport, they carried 250 rounds of ammunition and seven days' rations per man.
