adding additional elements to existing divisions

Post by USSLockwood »

Is is possible to add additional units to existing divisions or
must I decombine the entire division and then rebuild? Will I have
to pay the construction costs all over again?

you can add units to a division.. when you combine the division to begin with, it is the same button. Just make sure you have the division selected, as well as the unit you wish to add. Don't go over the limit though. I am not sure if it is 18 or 17.

Thanks.

You can reorganize them, too. So, if you use the negative icon to detach all units, then you can re-add the ones you want. I use this sometimes to create experienced divisions and to refocus their abilities somewhat.

You disband the entire stack as far as I can tell.

it would be nice to select which element I want to detach from the division.

Cavalry for example

Am I missing something

From my understanding when you disband a division if you recombine on that turn there is no cost.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Correct. No cost, so don't be worried about detaching all units and reorganizing them. In ACW1, divisions cost $$ and WS to create. No longer. Also, you'll notice when first creating a division, the leaders abilities are lowered for that turn (so be wary of creating a division and entering combat in same turn). However, a reorganize does not lower abilities, so long as you reorg that same turn. If you detach all units from a leader, then don't reattach anything that turn, the division "expires" and you have to reform again next turn. The only effect, of course, is the leader's temporary ability lowering.

I understand that...

Let's say I combine the division with 4 brigades and one cavalary element.... I chane my mind and want the cavalry regiment (element). The way I do it (could be wrong) is disband the entire division, and reform it without the cavalry regiment...

Make sense?

This is how you do it; disband the division then reform w/o the cavalry regiment. It would be better if there was a way to drop just the one or two elements/units you don't want w/o having to disband the entire division then ctrl-clicking all the units you want to add back to the division; gets tedious, especially if you like to do a lot of re-organization.

Agreed 100%. Whenever you check the elements by passing over the NATO marker, it flashes all of the units, but you can't move up and select them... It would be nice if you could, and whenever you do, you can chose to take them away from the division.
