Possible problems with some weapons data...

Post by kipanderson »

Hi,

You may know stuff I don’t; in fact you probably do...[;)]

However... having nosed around in the User data files I think there may be a few mistakes in an otherwise awe-inspiring mass of figures and features. They involve forgetting to add the Advanced Composite Armour under “specials...” to T80s.

RU304/ T80 should have ACA1 armour.
RU305, RU306, RU307, RU308 all versions of T80B should have ACA2. RU307 and RU308 possibly/likely ACA4.

All great stuff,
All the best,
Kip.
PS. FCRS is a wonder of research... a treasure trove.... !

Kip,
The data special for ACAx denotes a percentage of additional protection against HEAT weapons based on the value of the kinetic protection of the armor. It is not a generational designator or real system name. It would be possible to have a late model tank with ACA1 if it's chemical and kinetic protection values were nearly the same.

Hopefully not overly confusing. ERA works differently and is more type based. Now that may be confusing.[:D]
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Capn Darwin, hi,

Absolutely... understood... on the scale you are using, T80B with a front protection of 34... from memory, and no ACA or ERA would give real world protection of 510mm RHA against both HEAT and kinetic. If all the assumptions I have made about your system are correct[;)]. You use a very clever system.... give the figure against kinetic then adjust for effect against shaped charge.

Will have to look it up.... the very best source for these figures came with the original Steel Beasts... a fantastic a paper explaining it all in detail $700 priced books from Jane’s cannot equal. Sadly... I had a PC die due to hardware failure and lost my copy..

All very good fun,
All the best,
Kip.

Capn Darwin, hi,

Ok... Armor Technology by Paul Lakowski.. that was the document I was after. Fantastic source[:D].

It depends which part of the T80B front armour you are after, ranges from HEAT protection being 12% greater than kinetic to being 35% greater in mm of RHA. Average say 20% greater over forward arc.

My guess maybe a level ACA1?

But I know what you are thinking, you have better things to do than argue the toss about such matters which is why you are allowing us to mod the files is so good.

All good stuff,
All the best,
Kip.
PS. The net is a wonderful thing.. have the document again... [;)]
