Yup. Until all the new F-15SG's are here, we only have a few on the island. We upgraded the F-5E to F-5S with BVR capabilities. Who knows when the F-35 will materialize. :)
Also the Air Force justified that the F-5's are very hard to notice within Visual Range dog fights due to it's size.

Speaking of F-5´s, Brazils F-5EM/FM need Python 4/ Derby Loadout and removal of one of the guns.
Weapons: After the upgrades, F-5 EM/FM fighters can carry a wider range of weapons, including RAFAEL’s Derby beyond visual range air-air missiles, Brazilian Piranha and Israeli and Python short range air-air missiles, and laser-guided bombs. In exchange, they lose 1 of their 2 initial 20mm cannons.

They also say she can carry an ARM.

Do you have more info on the F-5S update? Cannot find any evidence of AMRAAM being operational, etc.

Thanks! [8D]

Hey Ragnar... Cannot get it to link here, but Air Forces Monthly Magazine from March 2011 indicates they have been fitted to be compatible with the AIM-120.. as well as wiki here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_F ... -FSRSAF-22 Although neither one says it is actually operational per se.

No worries. I haven't seen any pictures with the planes carrying the AIM-120's at the moment.

Aren't those some of the coolest little jets, ever? I've loved them ever since they came out. I think they still use them as adversaries in Fallon or somewhere out there.

Yes the US Navy uses them as adversary jets in fighter training.
