How do I position them?

1/ keeps getting shot down by enemy SAM
2/ Why wont they fire at enemy helicopters? Had no AA/SAM but thought that my AH-64s would shoot down some Mi-24 but they just backed of and the Mi-24 just Went all around the map cause no one would shoot them down.

I actually keep my birds behind the frontline trace a klick or two, then they form a mobile and fast lateral reserve. I lost too many when I actually put them out front to scout.

Of course, if you're not seeing many radar traces, you can be a bit more brazen with them.
