I'm scouring Google for info on squadron size and how many squadrons were in a regiment back during the cold war when these were deployed. Not finding much on numbers. Anyone have some good hard numbers?

Is this just curiosity or are you planning a scenario with them?

If the latter, the actual strength of something always varies from the on-paper numbers, so as long as it isn't too big, you could just use a number you feel works.

I just spent the last 40 minutes or so reading in Russian unit histories. It seems to have varied unit to unit based on needs or availability. The regiment at Tartu, Estonia only ever had 18, there were 2 regiments at Mongokhto in the Far East that had between 22-25 depending on the time period. Also Regiment is the unit size you are looking for and (for the most part) 3 regiments make an air division.

Just back from a quick playtest. Set up a US CCVBG north of iceland and sent 12 backfire bombers against it. I used 1988 as my year for equipment. The US Group was the Forrestal, 1 Tico, 2 Belknap CG's, 2 Spruance DD's and 4 OHP frigates. I didnt put up any CAP for the carrier, i just wanted to see what the missile defense did against a bunch of backfires.

Not ONE missile got through.

That is why they made her I would think...make it 32 and try it....FFG's can shoot at 4, Spruance well....2 Belknap's can cover 4....Tico ? 6?>8
