Scenario help needed: Operation Lions den

Post by coolts »

There are 2 x 130mm M1954 howitzer batteries guarding the harbour with terrifying accuracy. Every time I close to guns range, it obliterates my lead ship.

I have taken out the radars at range with Shrike and held off the NVA patrol and torpedo boats, but that damn gun is protecting the harbour.

The SAM batteries seem to have no organic radar units (Fan Song, etch), so should be blind. 2 x Corsair runs with Mk-20's have had no effect.
There are 2 of these batteries I need to take out and don't fancy a kamikaze run. They are apparently guided by one guy with binoculars! From 9 miles range he must have a bloody Hubble telescope!

What am I missing?

They can fire at you because their side can see them, kill all radars that can possibly see you, including the PT Boats.

Hi another way round it is to use your long range shooters with 6" & 8" guns should do the trick

The 130mm batteries will still fire first when they know where you are, and they usually hit better. I don´t know why a common Ari battery guided by a far away radar has a better Ph on a fast moving target then
a fairly modern warship has on them, but thats the way it seems to be in CMANO.

I don't know the answer, but I do know sailors have been saying "the ship that fights a fort's a fool" ever since ships have engaged shore batteries. [:)]

Is this mission an impossible one then? In order to win there are a load of ground targets, and to get close enough you will be in range of those guns which out range you by miles. Not possible as far as I can see

I played this scenario in episode 0 of my show; which I didn't record.

Its definitely not impossible! The trick is to defeat the enemy in detail. The goal is to prevent the coastal artillery for even being able to fire at you.

And you did that with just your 8" and 6" guns on the two cruisers? The battery still outranges them both and has pinpoint accuracy.

(I enjoy your show BTW. I catch-up on YouTube. Very informative and emtertaining ;)
