Cocos - Looks like Tom knows about other Japanese players who have allowed this outpost to remain in Allied hands. I was unable to get the brigade in that was nearby a few days ago. I would "assume" that KB3 is nearby.

Hope to hit transports, but not get involved with KB3.

The three A-24 groups and Vindicator group are now in Australia for rebuilding and further training. They did OK against transports, but not warships (see post about Ambon).

Observation - I've been using the latest beta patches as they have come out in my PBEM games. I've noticed that I see a lot more double missions flown (Naval Attacks) by my DB/TBs as long as the ships are within range. One each in both AM and PM Air Attack Phases.

Is anybody else seeing this??

Dec 29th - Horn Island targeted

Landings: Davao (1st Kure Assault Div & 8th TK); Wake (looks like just more supplies)

Subs:
I-9 is 3 NW of Pearl (misses the two transports that made it from Philippines)

CVs:
KB1 & 2 - 2 NE Horn Island

KB3 - 5 west Batavia

CVEs - MIA...Day 3

Burma/India:
Moulmein -

Malaya:
Singapore - 23 Oscars with 11 Sally and 28 oscars with 5 Sally

China:

Philippines:
Manila - 12 Oscars sweep.

Oroquieta - Still waiting....
Ground combat at Iloilo (79,84)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 4033 troops, 34 guns, 10 vehicles, Assault Value = 148

Defending force 4698 troops, 82 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 171

Japanese adjusted assault: 129

Allied adjusted defense: 17

Japanese assault odds: 7 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Iloilo !!!

Combat modifiers
Defender: leaders(+), preparation(-), experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
47 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
2796 casualties reported
Squads: 163 destroyed, 0 disabled

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Assaulting units:
21st/B Division

Defending units:
61st PA Infantry Division

Sumatra:

Java:
Batavia - 27 Zero with 20 Betty and 27 Nell start to close the AF down.

Borneo:
Billiton - Off this base my Dutch Air Force shows up. 19 fighters (not going to name these guys) and 22 of the 139 WH-3 bombers miss the transports. In the afternoon phase, another 21 bombers miss. [:(]

Eastern DEI:

Other:
KB 1 & 2 show up off Horn Island as 37 Zero with 23 Val sink my xAKL with 2 bomb hits.

Notes/Plans:
CV Yorktown arrives at San Diego. She will stay here with CV Saratoga until after the New Year so their fighters can re-size from 21 to 27 along with the DB & TB groups. Down grading the 18 plane Marine fighters to naval Buffalo so the the two models of F4F-3 can be used to fill out the CV fighter groups. Of course, I will place a 18 plane Marine fighter group on each CV.

The two big Dutch BF (Aviation Support 100) have each had a fragment air lifted out. One towards India and the other towards Australia. Once Java falls, these will become the parent and can be rebuilt.

Taking Horn Island vs Port Moresby now is better as it will prevent any egress from northern Australia by my shipping.

Caught up with reading John 3rd's latest posting and I wonder over in my game, where are all his IJA bombers?? I see a few in southern China that start game here, but the rest are.....[&:]

Jan 2nd '42 - Dutch Air Force is used as target practice.

Landings:

Subs:
I-1 at Noumea gets to my big transport with 2 TT hits. xAP Bloemfontein is sunk. [:(]

CVs:
KB1 & 2 - MIA

KB3 - 4 East Palembang

CVEs - MIA...Day 7

CV Saratoga & Yorktown leave San Diego. Yorktown is overloaded with two Marine fighter groups on board. I wonder if I will get any training done with the CV overloaded as everybody is set 100% Training??

Burma/India:

Malaya:
Singapore - 22 Oscars with 11 Sally.

Kuala Lumpur - the empty base is captured by 5th Recon.

China:
Wuchow - 12 Nates with 8 Vals hit troops. Then, 21 Ida, 19 Sonia, 9 Lily come in again. This is now a daily occurrence.

Philippines:
Manila - 12 Oscars sweep. Ground bb

Cotabato - The remains of my Philippine Air force have moved to Cagayan. Those able to carry bombs were placed on Naval Attack. Since the P-40Bs don't, they are Escorts. 9 P-40Bs escort in 7 P-26s and 6 Seagull FPs. I get three hits - 2 xAKs and a PC. 7 P-40Es get a single bomb hit on xAK.

Sumatra:
Palembang - With KB3 to the east of the base, 24 Zero are over the CVs as 7 fighters escort in 5 bombers. 8 are lost. I lose 3 of 6 in a fragmented strike.

Java:
Batavia -

Merak - The death of the Dutch Air Force happens here. 36 Zero are on LRCAP as 20 fighters with 14 134WH-3 bombers try to hit something. 7 are lost for no hits. Two more strikes with just the bombers don't do any better. 30 Zero are left in the afternoon phase as just 2 fighters are left to go in with 26 bombers. I lose another 10 planes.

Borneo:

Eastern DEI:

Other:

Engineering:

Notes/Plans:
Air losses are lopsided today as I lose 43 to 8.

I should have put more effort to dislodge your MLR before it really became fortified :(
