This game is overwhelming.

Post by Son_of_Orion »

I am incredibly impressed with the sheer amount of flexibility and detail this game provides. I'm having so much trouble learning how to play it properly, though. I understand the GUI and all, it's just that I have issues with the actual tactics. What's most difficult for me is finding the enemy and controlling large battlegroups. I'm not entirely sure how to scout them out without lighting myself up for them with my active sensors, since I don't really know how reliable passive sensors are in regards to detection. As for large groups, well, I'm just nervous about micromanagement in general. :P

Any tips? I wanna ease my way into this, the sheer amount of freedom I have in going about a mission can overwhelm me sometimes!

Watching the videos may help.

You can find some of our here:

But I would suggest Baloogan's as well.

Also. Stick to smaller scenario for a while. The complexity goes up exponentially with the number of units/unit types.

If you ask me, I just turn on all radars and sonars. Screw the stealth approach.

Only the subs use passive sensors.

If you hav a large battlegroup you may like have ships with aircraft like search helicopters depending on visibilty they will help alot to locate possible hostiles. Send them out in all directions, put on the radar for some too even.

If you have helis or aircraft in your group, by all means you should send them up and use their radar instead of their ships. Why do you think the us navy has E-2's? THEY are your eyes. The only time i turn on my ships radars is when i absolutely have to. Youll notice a lot of the helis have a loadout called maritime surveillance. That should give you a hint into one of their purposes.

I like Latakia. It's historical and a purely surface engagement. Play it a lot, conduct all your attacks manually, and try to get it perfect (ie, all Syrians sunk with minimal missiles expended and, to be completely historically accurate, sink the torpedo boats with only your guns). You'll also gain an appreciation of ECM [;)]
