Battle of Shwebo Phase I

With the total over quoter million troops involved and over 1000 plans on both sides Battle of Shwebo happen to be the biggest and the most bloody engagement in this game we have with GJ up to now.
Picture is worth 1000 words so:

Battle of Shwebo Phase II

Allied Losses 200k troopers according to GJ.

Japan intelligence reports show additionally ~500 airframes
Japanese losses 30-40k troopers, 300 Guns, over 1000 tanks and vehicles and ~350 airframes.

Right now I have Burma secured for at least next 12 months.

Right now allied forces build up around Gilberd Islands. Occasional fight over islands between Hellcats and Zeros.

South Pacific
Allied flattops and invasion forces are closing to Suva.
There are very few defenders still on the island, Guard Brigade + some engineering and air support units, additionally 45 Zeros and 36 Frances and few patrol planes.

Philippines, Eastern DEI, Sumatra--Java, Malaya
One big training camp.

Burma

Ceylon

Allied air forces started huge offensive. Right now all airfields are closed, huge casualties on both sides. IJN air units are evacuating to Burma right now, actually only what has left of those air units. Next GJ landed at Colombo, defenders where decimated by superior allied forces.

Battle of Nauru Island

August 23, 1943.

Two patrol boats Emily from 802 Kukotai discover several enemy task forces 160 miles south-east of Ocean Island. Reports show invasion fleet in bound of Ocean Island.
KB was waiting for this day 5 weeks already cruising north-east of Ontong Java. So I did assume that GJ want Ocean Island. It was wrong assumption, GJ send whole pacific fleet to invade Nauru Island, main IJN base in area. KB moved at full speed to strike position 40 miles west of NI. It seems to me that GJ did exactly the same with his Carries and he landed 80 miles south-east of NI. Next day carrier meet at pint blank range 160 mil.

At first morning Allied surface task force bombarded Nauru Island.

I must say this battle result looks very good from a game play perspective : Damage to both side, no clear victor that can than pursue at will. What will he do ? go for it with surface forces or retreat as well and lick his wounds ? Looking forward to the update.

Saratoga is probably FOW, but Yorktown looks like a gonner. You lose one CV and have a handful in yard, he loses one + maybe a CVL + 4/5 CVEs + quite a few CVs and CVLs in yard. Sure it is not the clean victory one could have hoped for, but it nevertheless slows him down significantly as he has to ferry ships far back for repairs, etc. Good on you overall.

And your CV loss was "just" Soryu. She and Hiryu are easily the worst of the true IJN CVs, as the Hiyos are more properly CVLs...

Loss of the air groups hurts more in the short term, but you can rebuild them. Were you able to get any pilots off of Soryu before she sank?

Pilots & air groups are safe on land, all 40 planes were damaged and were not able to fly off.
Most of KB already dock in Truk. I have over 1500 IJN trained pilots rdy right now ( 300 per 3 months period ), however replenish airframes it is job for 2 - 3 months. I am producing very little airframes due lack activity from GJ up to now. Soon I will have ready to production Ki-84c and short time after that Ki-100 II.
For IJN I have production Shiden Model 2 and Zero A6m8.
R&D is working on Grace now 1x 30 and first 30 factory of Sam is almost ready 29/1.

With all of that power so close on ly a few ships sunk. Interesting. As others have said it looks like you came out just slightly ahead.

Nice work and great positioning to intercept his fleet there.

Situation Report Aug 8 - Sep 11 1943.

North Pacific

Recon flights exchange.

South Pacific

Suva in allied hands, remains Empire's units forced to retread to Nadi.

Several naval bombardments by Allied task forces BBs & DDs trashed Nauru Island. Carriers are still in area, protecting bombardments forces, and blocking my reinforcements.

Heavy losses on my side 5 Subs and ~200 airframes (mostly zeros, kates, nicks).

I have created two carriers task forces ( 3 CV, 4 CVL, 2miniCV ), right now on the way to Nauru Island. Just as opportunity strike force.

Malaya

Still a few allied subs in Strait of Malacca, but most were pushed back by my bombers.
Fortification completed. Malaya ready for any invasion.

Philippines, DEI, Sumatra--Java

One big happy training camp.

Burma

AA upgrades to 12" guns.

Salomon's Islands, New Guinea, New Brittan

Preparing for invasion.

China

Still heavy streets fighting in Chihkiang. City is under attack by 300 Hellenes, 60 DB on daily base ( very minimal loses due to rookie pilots flaying bombers)

Ceylon

Dambulla under siege. Attacked by over 200 bombers on daily base ( minimal losses ). Alla five allied attack were repel.

Generally GJ is start pushing north in South Pacific, and I do not have resources to stop him. 2/3 my carriers are in shipyard after last clash. My cruisers and battleships waits for radar installation before engage allied fleet again. It seems that GJ is planing big move out there, the fun we have around NI looks more like try to make be busy, than serious push.
My subs are sinking after each allied asw attack. Success ratio on his side is ~90%. I have ordered all subs back to ports, temporary no idea what to do with all this subs.

I've stopped pretty much all submarine production in my DaBabes Lite PBEM. Supposedly ASW was toned down for both sides, but the results in game simply don't reflect that. My submarines have simply been pasted by Allied ASW when spotted throughout 1942. I've never seen Allied ASW this effective during the first year of the war in all the years I've played...ever. I'm also losing SC's and E's at an alarming rate going after detected submarines. DaBabes has changed this component of the game completely. It is what it is.

You lost 5 subs to allied ASW and 5 SC/Es to subs in 11 months. Thats one every second month. If massive losses like that is cause for alarm I hope I won´t cause you an heart attack in 43-45! [:D]

I have lots 12 subs in 1942. And 8 subs last two months, all to allied ASW weapons like K-Gun MK 6, DC Rack Mk 7 etc. My opponent already has told me that base on his experience, Japs subs in DBB are useless after 1943.

As it is my first PBEM experience with sub after 1942 I can not say it just standard issue or just DBB, or I am very bad sub user. I have just noticed issue that my subs are sinking usually during the first encounter with allied ASW ships. True is I am forced to withdraw my submarine fleet to stop giving GJ VP for free.

You're not understanding the intent of my post. It's not the losses, but rather how they are being lost or damaged and the resulting lack of effectiveness to counter. Considering you've never played Japan under DaBabes you can't really comment objectively. If I say I've noticed a difference and my forces are not nearly as effective, you have to take that at face value rather than make light of what you perceive to be a non-issue. When's the last time you suffered a hit to a Japanese torpedo, it's been awhile hasn't it?

MrKane states a 90% success rate for Allied ASW so it appears to be an issue with him as well and he's resorting to pulling his submarines back until he can decide how they might, if at all, be effective anymore. My post was simply to say I won't build anymore because I foresee they will be next to useless in the coming years. I'd build aircraft instead.

It's all relative Jocke. Considering I've just lost three SC's and E's in as many days that is an alarming rate when I'm actively hunting your detected submarines. I can count on one hand how many times a submarine of mine has escaped with anything less than heavy damage encountering any of your TF's in 11 months. Actual losses don't tell the whole story as heavy damage often achieves the same results. It's only going to get worse, so yeah, the trend of my submarines being so easily suppressed and ASW naval forces getting hammered is alarming.

I've noticed how you like to use your submarines in shallow water or parked outside of bases, in stock they'd be getting hammered. That's not the case in DaBabes and you know it. I understand your reluctance to admit DaBabes has changed this aspect of the game heavily in favour of the Allies. More historical, I get that and accept it. Play Japan to experience the difference and you might develop some empathy for those of us that are now on the receiving end of it. [:D]

I'm just saying the changes are substantial. You may be affected by duds and that's extremely frustrating I know. Try watching replay after replay of your submarines simply being ineffective against any escorted Allied TF, or your shipping surviving solely by mercy of a dud roll knowing that your ASW 99% of the time can't suppress the attacks. Big difference. [8D]
