New Airplane Data Files
Here it is. The new Airplane file(s). There’s 2 files in the zip: WiTPairDBB.csv and wpaDBB.dat.
WiTPairDBB.csv is for Excel and is provided for all the crazy people that want to do some comparisons and maybe tweak some things on their own. Plane list and slot locations follow stock and Babes.
wpaDBB.dat is the airplane data file for scenarios. It is an ongoing-Babes-game compatible drop-in. If you are playing a BigBabes, BabesLite, or a stock scenario with a scen number higher than 25, just replace DBB with your 3 digit scen number, drop it into the scen folder and have fun.
Not tweaked yet for RA, and I understand from Andy that I’ll have to close attention to F and FB types for his Ironman series of scenarios, but details .. details .. [8D] Will get it done.
As always, righteous comments and criticisms are encouraged. Ciao. JWE

RE: New Airplane Data Files
Looks good re FB's its more personal preference John the work either way its just that some Beaufighters and Hurricane IV / IId's operate better IMO as light attack bombers - they get the benefit of attack bombers to defence and low level attacks and its a better representation of their abilities in the code than FB's
RE: New Airplane Data Files
Andy,
The big problem with FBs in my experience is with PDU=ON (which almost all games run with), in that fighters and fighter-bombers are considered two different groups by the game engine. That means any upgrades between them have to be coded in within the scenario.
It would be better if F/FB were handled the way that HB/MB are handled (actually with all bomber types as a group, with variants). It's a bit late for that of course, so instead having all or virtually all fighters and fighter-bombers represented as fighters seems the most sensible.
John,
Got the files! Can't wait until we drop them in and see how they fly. [:)]

Yes, Andy, I do agree. I have done similar things for our personal mod. It works really cool if you have F and FB units and the planes are configured right. Woof !!ORIGINAL: Andy Mac

Thing is, we have to hew close to stock for our public offerings. That's our basic brief. So we can't depart that far from the stock paradigm. Some of our smaller scenarios are gonna get as gnarly with data as you get with the AI, but the GC stuff has to be benign (kinda, sorta), [8D] I'm sure you understand that one [:)]
Again, thanks. Ciao. JWE

Aye we all ave our personal mods that are designed around our own personal quirks
Mine is the reduce clicks mod
I.e. all US west coast reinforcememts arrive at San Francisco so I don't need to mess about with extra clicks moving them to SF - ease of play less grief but not something most folks want !!!

RE: New Airplane Data Files
Just glanced at some of the speed numbers. Surprised to see a certain
F4U version in the sub-400MPh category. Nice speed boost for the Jack.
Looks like the F6F was boosted as well. Have only progressed 2 turns so far, will
see how it pans out.

RE: New Airplane Data Files
Its because the WITP crowd is such a broad spectrum of players.
Me I am more of the game player dont mind giving up a little reality around the edges to make the game managable
So my personal mod
1. All US Air Groups, Ships and LCU's that arrive on continental US now arrive at SF
2. HQ Sqns dont exist unless forward deployed
3. Perma restricted sqns in US mostly dont apppear - cannot be arsed with pilot management sub game !!!
4. All Canadian/NZ/Australian, Indian and British Aircraft set to nationality Commonwealth
5. Beaufighter VIc, X and Hurricane IId and IV are classed as light attack bombers rather than FB's
Other changes then happen depending on the level of Ironman I am playing
I usually select from this list
1. 5 point booset to pilot xp (HATE the training sub game)
2. Cancel withdrawal for selected RN ships
3. Cancel withdrawal for selected CW LCU's
4. Remove Perma restriction from selected LCU's or air groups
5. Increase selected device pools
6. Increase selected aircraft pools or consolidate sub types - e.g. one type of Kittyhawk I for all CW natrions
7. Add a few never were ships from Allied Ironman list just for interest
Basically for my personal Ironman nasty nasty mod I try to make the scenario fun for me and as easy to manage as possible

RE: New Airplane Data Files
The AB versus FB role .. I had not considered that, but I am going to look at it now.
I have used the LB, MB, HB radio buttons in the editor in the past. The code does look at those, right?

RE: New Airplane Data Files
I'm currently playing a PBEM using DBB 30 as the Allies. My opponent, Olorin, renamed the file for this scenario and added it to DBB "SCEN" folder. He is reporting that there was no change in the data presented. Is there a button that needs to be clicked on by the Japanese player to make this happen?? If so, which one and where?? Thanks!!

My one wish (yeah, I know...) was for an "emergency CAP" selection on things like dive bombers, Whirraways and such. Sorta like what happened at Coral Sea.
With any real escort, they would (and rightly should) get creamed, but it would be useful against unescorted raids when fighters aren't available.

RE: New Airplane Data Files
Yep, that would be the -1D at 12175 lbs, and at military power. It was configured as a FB and had a lot of drag inducing stuff hanging off of it. At WEP it could do 409 mph. If the capped wing pylons, and the drop tank fittings were removed (i.e., totally clean), it could do 417 mph under WEP. Carrying 1000# of bombs and a 150 gal drop tank, it could do 367 mph, at military (353 normal rated). Thought the nominal combat condition (with fittings, but without bombs, rockets, or tanks) at military power would be the most appropriate, since everyone else was done the same way [;)]ORIGINAL: Warrant officer 0/0

Don't know. Think there is a "sequence" that needs to fe followed. We play umpired H2H, so aren't all that familiar with the ins-and-outs of PBEM. Maybe one of the PBEM gurus will know. I'll bet John 3rd knows [8D] Sorry I can't be more helpful. JORIGINAL: ny59giants

John, just adding my thanks here as well! Sensational work, I will sure put it to good use. [8D]

RE: New Airplane Data Files
Looks great!
OTOH from an Imperial Production Optimizer's point of view there is ever less reason to produce certain airframes, as they're relative to their competitors even worse than before. [:(] I'm looking at you, Ki-61 and A6M(though the M3 became nastier)!
I noticed that your work seems to touch mostly the performance values in speeds, mvr and climb, while operational ranges, availability dates, service ratigns and such were left at least largely as they were. Is this correct?
