A few questions about helos

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

A few questions about helos

Post by Kommissar »

I have two questions about helos and supply so if anyone can answer them let me thank you in advance:

1) I am playing a scenario in which I actually have Hinds as assets. Flying a pair from my initial starting line to about the middle of the battlefield required the helos to go into resupply mode. I'm not exactly sure why that would be. Surely the helos didn't expend so much fuel they now need a pit stop. Would low readiness cause this? Why would readiness tumble so far so fast just for flying from A to B? No combat of any kind occurred.

2) When helos do need to resupply, don't they need to go back to HQ to do that? I thought the manual said they did, but then saw one of my Hinds in resupply mode get fully resupplied when it was not immediately near an HQ. Which HQ would be necessary, the main HQ for the attacking force or just the hq for its flight or regiment?

To be brief, both are bugs. One was in from the start, but aggravated by a change in 2.01. The second, was a break from 2.01 where helo resupply in certain cases would get cchanged to the wrong type of resupply.

Both items have beene fixed and tested in 2.02.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

OK, I was just wondering. The only thing I could come up with, other than bugs, was the dev team modeling a practice that some Hind pilots practiced in Afghanistan. Instead of using the squad compartment for troops, they would use that extra space to carry more ammo. After firing off all their salvos, the Hind crew would land somewhere safe and reload the rocket pods, etc with the spare ammo and then go back into battle.
