Jan 17th & 18th 1942: mainly just ground stuff

Landings:

Subs:
O23 sinks an xAK off Balikpapan.

I-15 & I-17 lead a charmed life off Pearl.

I-18 misses CL Boise at Melbourne with 6 TT. Order all CVs and non repairing warships to head for Hobart.

S-34 hits an xAK at Nauru with one TT. She did not sink.

CVs:
KB & company - MIA

Burma/India:
Toungoo - 25 Betty hit the AF. Over half my H-81 are damaged. Ordered them and BF to move up to Mandalay. They come in for a second day.

Malaya:
Singapore - Ground bb attacks on 17th. Deliberate on 18th, the first since initial shock attacks.
Ground combat at Singapore (50,84)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Engineers: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Guns lost 25 (1 destroyed, 24 disabled)
Vehicles lost 12 (2 destroyed, 10 disabled)

Except for the Imperial Gds Div, the rest are just Infantry Regiments. From my experience, they don't do well in this type of ground combat.

China:
Wuchow - 11 Nates with over 65 bombers attack troops only.

Wenchow - daily ground bb

Philippines:
Manila - Daily Ground bb. No air attacks on 17th. 70 bombers on 18th

Benkoelen - Two days worth of shock attacks fail to take base.

Java:
Tjilatjap -

Borneo:
Kuching -

Balikpapan - 9 139WH from Tarakan miss warships and transports. Another 15 miss on the 18th.

Wuchow - 11 Nates with over 45 bombers attack troops only.

Wenchow -

Manila - daily ground bb both days are preceded by about 70 bombers..

Sumatra:

Java:

Jan 25th & 26th 1942:

Landings: Buin & Taytay

Subs:
I-7 is 1 SW of Eureka as a small TF sails by.

KXVII is sunk after sinking an xAP with 2 TT hits south of Saigon.

CVs:
KB & company - MIA

Burma/India:
Toungoo -

Malaya:
Singapore - Two days worth of failed deliberate attacks on base with just the 26th getting over 100 Sally.

Kuantan -

China:
Wuchow - 11 Nates with over 45 bombers attack troops only.

Wenchow -

Kweitah - My two weak Corps are thrown out on 26th.

Philippines:
Manila - daily ground bb both days are preceded by about 70 bombers.

Sumatra:

Java:
Soerabaja - My shrinking Dutch air force attacks the approaching Guards Mixed Brigade one hex to west. I lose another 10 planes to 21 Zeros.

Kalidjati - I try to take the base back by a shock attack from surviving troops from Batavia. I fail with odds at 4A:33J.

Borneo:
Tarakan - An approaching SC TF of 2 CA, 2CL, & 5 DD are still 5 hexes due east when my 3 Dutch bombers try unsuccessfully to hit them. On the next day, my 9 remaining PTs and them shoot at each other and nobody hits anything. Weird!! The TF then bombards the base and leaves.

Eastern DEI:

Other:
Savaii - 2 AMCs visit my DD and TK. The still unloading TK is hit and later sinks when trying to get away while an AMC gets 6 hits from the DD.

Engineering:
Prince Rupert P6; Christchurch AF6; Calcutta AF7; Noumea AF3

Notes/Plans:

Jan 27th & 28th 1942: CV sighting

Landings:

Subs:

CVs:
KB & company - CVs are sighted at 12 due north of Luganville. Mouse over shows 42F, 43B, 6 Aux

Burma/India:
Toungoo -

Malaya:
Singapore - 100 Sally hit the AF before another deliberate attack. This one gets barely 1:1 odds [890J:885A] finally. Mr Kane must have listened to my comments in an email about how regiments take more casualties (lots of disablement)than full divisions. He now has four full divisions (Imp Gds, 5, 33, & 56) plus elements of 18th.

Kuantan - Survives another deliberate attack [96J:4(A], but forts go to 2. They are reduced to 1 with second attack.

China:
Wuchow - 11 Nates with over 45 bombers attack troops only.

Wenchow -

Philippines:
Manila - daily ground bb both days are preceded by about 70 bombers.

Taytay - empty base switches sides.

Sumatra:
Djambi - empty base is captured intact by 6 Tank

Java:
Soerabaja - Guards Mixed Brigade enters hex. Another is behind it.

Kalidjati - Two days of shock attacks by 4th Div wipe out my troops.

Borneo:
Tarakan -

Eastern DEI:
Manado - Base hold vs one element of 81st Naval Guards shock attack [10J:19A]

Other:
Wake - It takes two days for 9 Betty to sink one of two small xAKLs bringing in needed supplies. Hopefully, this will help them against the two Naval Guards units there.

Engineering:
Christmas AF2; Port Augusta P2;

Notes/Plans:
Saving PP for use in buying out a division on way to Cape Town. Looking at the weak divisions in India means I need to devote more to this theater. 75 fighters are on way to Cape Town to join 75 already there.

He has decimated those IDs with the previous attacks whilst in Regts. I thought he'd know better. Anyway it means he has a tougher job to defeat you as his disablements and fat/dis must be sky high right now...

He just rebuilt the 18 Div last turn (29th). The attacks have been showing Japan with more casualties until this turn. Allies have more "Squads" destroyed, but his disabled squads have been at least twice what my destroyed have been. After the base falls he has to rest those troops. I will NOT tell him to divide the divisions and assign good leaders to speed up recovery time nor the need to get his Southern Command HQ there to speed up any replacements he needs. He now has five divisions here and two over on Java.

Strange. He already used all those "tricks" against me. He knows a divided division recover faster and he knows perfectly the effects of the Command HQ (used against me in Burma). Pretty weird he's not using at Singa against you. probably he's just being lazy [:)]

KB comes and goes!! [&:]

Singapore Falls!![:(]

Landings: Puerto Princesa

Subs:
RO-61 is 4 NE of Christmas Island. She misses my TK TF as they stop at base to top off fuel before heading for Pago Pago and beyond.

CVs:
KB & company -
29th - MIA after being sight north of Luganville

30th - 4 TF are sighted 3 north of Koumac. 3 are CV (224F, 247B, 68Aux) and a 4th TF that I think is an Amphib TF with the objective of landing at Koumac tomorrow.

31st - False alarm!! KB and Co. head north (see screenshot) and are now 12 north of Koumac. Looks like this was a potential raid of shipping coming into Noumea. The 4th TF looks like it was his fast AOs. I have PBYs at Efate (with 2 AVDs & DD disbanded in port), Noumea, Brisbane, and Ellice Islands (AV and 2 DDs disbanded) to keep track of things in South Pacific.

RE: All Ahead Flank - Reluctant Admiral 6.1: Mr Kane (J) vs NY59Giants (A)

Post by ny59giants »

Will play catch up on AAR starting Friday when my vacation begins. [8D] Off for the rest of the month starting at 5am. Nice to have 10 years in company to get 4 weeks vacation now.

Allied player note - Even after all these years playing this game, I realized after last turn (Feb 7th) that I should have been training up those 5 plane HQ bomber groups that are either Restricted and/or have mid to late '42 withdrawl dates in ASW vs Grounds skills. My PBYs are spread out from Johnson Island to Brisbane keeping an eye on Japanese surface movements. A Transport TF was shot at just 2 hexes south of San Fran this turn. My Kingfisher FP still are training up.
