Escort TF problem

Post by Chris21wen »

Latest patch.

Escort TF formed with undamaged CA. Typically if a DD is damaged the escort TF will be something like 1x CA, 1x DD. Fortunately the three times it has happen to me now the two TF have still been in the same hex.

Was it one of the Japanese CA that has ASW capability?

The Takao class had depth charges, yes.

I think that may be what causes the problem. The game looks for something with an ASW value to act as escort, decides that pulling a DD out leaves the remaining TF unbalanced and picks the CA as that gives two task forces with roughly equal balance between capital ships and screens.

Just send them into battle against AKAs. The 'merchant' guncrews will land a shell hit that blows up the DC racks.

At least that's what happened in my Guadalcanal PBEM.

Never thougt of that, but probably. Doesn't really matter why it's done it shouldn't be.

Seems to me what shouldn't be is ASW capability on an Armored Crusier....it makes the game engine look at that ship as a perfectly viable escort for another damaged vessel.

I don't have details but I was under the inpression that the Takao class were fitted with ASW capability. Even if you disagree with putting ASW on CAs (I do), it happened. This does not mean that the game should put CA's as ASW escorts for DDs or any other ships for that matter.
