Taxes on books. What happens if I reject the package?
I just received a call from FedEx, they wanted to know some personal info, to deliver the books. Like several members, I like the books but I think a PDF is enough.
What they want to charge (assuming it's only books, which I confirmed) is 16€ + 4% (don't know on what price, books or the whole lot).
So, I am considering rejecting the books. In this case I guess they will be sent back to USA or wherever they came from. Would there be any problem for this? I mean, with Matrix and my game purchase...

First, here's what we know about shipping and possible customs charges. Based on our research, if you were unlucky enough to get hit with them the total should not be much over $20. Given the cost of the game and the shipping cost IMHO it's worth the additional charge to actually get the books, which are fantastic but I don't know your situation. Refusing the shipment will not change the fact that you purchased the game. You will still be on record with us as a legal owner and your serial number will work fine, etc.

Thanks, of course I can pay for them, but I haven't decided yet if I want more books growing dirt in the shelves, I have became a believer in Ebooks.
Thans for the info in this prompt answer. I am waiting for the 2nd call of FedEx and thinking about it.
My Commander in Chief (wife) says Yes, so I feel tempted.

It is nice to see that you have a clear grasp of your situation...
16€...what a pain..it seems that you were hardly hit by Montoro and his fight to rebalance the public finances...[&:]

Plus a 4% on ¿the 16? ¿the total price of the game? no idea.
You don't live in Spain now? Because Montoro taxes Baleares too. Or maybe you didn't buy the game...

Hi Jose,
1. The tax will be on the price of the product+shipping(they could exclude +/-20% of the freight if they are doing it by the book)+duties.
2. If a shipment is refused by the recipient, leaks or is damaged, the shipment will be returned to the sender if possible. If the sender refuses to accept the returned shipment or it cannot be returned because of leakage or damage due to faulty packaging, the shipper is responsible for and will reimburse FedEx for all costs and fees of any type connected with the legal disposal of the shipment, and all costs and fees of any type connected with cleanup of any spill or leakage.

3. I'ts good to see that they ship 'books' and not 'DVD's' as duties + TAX is less.
4. IF (I repeat IF) customs decides to open the package you'll be in a world of pain [:D]. As DVD is included in the books, they could give you a fine because you falsely reported the goods as 'books only'.

The books look very nice... I think they are a good addition to your WiF kit...

This is because they are required to pay that much to get the package through customs. I do not believe either company is allowed to profit off of duties and taxes.

Thx, Fleming for the detailed explanation.
Easo: It was humor, I asked my wife if she though it was worth it, like I ask the forum members their opinions on other matters, but I take those decisions, and much more for 20 euros, we are not speaking of a new mortgage. [:D]
Centuur, thanks for your input.
Wodin, I am very surprised. I have bought games from other houses, games which arrive in less than a week from UK or usually other EU countries and their transport costs 4 -5 euros or pounds, if I recall well, max in any crazy case, like 7. So somebody is making an excellent business here or is super inefficient. Or sends through express or luxury means.
LRRP: In Europe every day disappears a new portion of what has been called the Welfare State, we unfortunately are evolving to USA, the disappearance of URSS let the capitalism show the real and ugly face... not the New Deal but the "Old Deal".

Joder!!!
NOw this frigging guy from Fedex is not calling back. No yesterday, not today, although he told me he would call me yesterday afternoon.
I am not in a hurry at all, but the service is pitiful apart from extremely expensive. Had I been in a hurry I would be furious.

The packages are marked with a physical value of $40 so I assume it would be 4% of $40.
