Sorry if I confused question I was attempting to back you up. I was sure that the issue of aircraft going off a long way from there patrol zone. The only thing I don't know is what is an acceptable distance the planes can go outside there patrol zone.

I apologise if I muddied the waters it wasn't my intention.

I played the 2008 scenario ("give them hell") and had some very adventurous Flankers cruising around near Istanbul

More context please? What were they supposed to do? What was the expected behavior? Save available?

We're not telepaths, guys. Take the time to describe your problem.

I just checked. None of the AI Flanker patrols in that scenario had the "investigate contacts outside patrol area" checked.
The nearest patrol area was at least 100 nm away.

I ran the same scenario from both Turkey and Russia up to the point you showed. I never had any SU-27 go beyond it's patrol zone. There is one patrol of Mig-31s that have the investigate option checked.

Here is a screenshot from the Russian side at about the same time you showed. Not sure what is going on in your run through.

I had god's eye view on for that one. I let it run a little longer and declared Turkey and NATO hostile. Even with a couple F-16s engaging them from outside the patrol box, the Su-27s ultimate waypoint brings them back to the patrol. They skirted the outside of the box during the dogfight, but never went more than a couple miles out.
