request: ships auto engage incoming missiles

Post by Alex170g »

Hello

In response to
Why I find 'The Tiger and the Dragon' frustrating

I’ve seen some discussion that states that the AI fires more SSM/ASM that are really needed, wasting them, and knowing that if I enable “No AI fire” option my units won’t defend from incoming missiles/air attacks, wouldn´t it be cool to add a new option as in the old Jane’s Fleet Command: “Ships auto-engage Incoming missiles”

So I would add both options:

No AI fire…weapons tight…no fire
Ships auto engage Incomming Missiles/Hostile aircrafts…AI can only allocate SAM and AAA fire.

At least, if I’m in palying actions in one place, my ships in another place will defend automatically and won’t waste SSM.

Another solution that can work is as Thewood1 and others says (more micromanage?):
-Semi-auto fire: Ai allocations but asking the player to confirm or override allocations made by the AI

What do you think?

I think that's what's happening now?

You can have weapons tight or have control over offensive and ships will auto-defend.

Skyhigh: Are you sure?

I tried AI fire off, and my ships did't fire any SAM in first contact 2016.

That's what I see. Turning Auto Firing "off" shuts down all AI shooting; with AI Auto firing "on" ships will still not auto fire SSMs (unless assigned to an ASuW mission as in Tiger and Dragon).

Read that thread better, you'll see.
