Been naughty, spending money I don't have!

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

I really am enjoying the demo. I don't mind the abstractions. I enjoy see the dice and getting that old time feel. (One of my favorite games Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets had the dice and CRT table on screen.)

I'm more concerned with the way it runs; I see several reports of it not running after install. I'm assuming that most people are not having problems... I'm new to Windows 8 and that scares me. The Demo seems to run fine; that's a good sign. I think I will take the chance.

Thanks for the input!

I am running the game on Windows 8.1 without any issues. Wish I could say that about all my games.

I somehow missed the Demo, thanks for the heads up. I really like it and believe I will order today, along with the board game version. I could never find the board version in the past and gave up, but looks like they revised it and have a 2nd edition out now. I'm sure I can round up a peep or two to to give it ago at the local game shop. Plus it appears they are also coming out with a solo expansion soon.(win-win-win!)
I really think it you look at the game through "board" game eyes it is pretty good and I see what all the fuss was about was a few years back now when it came out.

I have the board game and this is a very nice conversion! It's mostly intact from the board to pc. CoH is not
an SL or ASL and never will be. There is only one game that is close (kind of )to SL or ASL and Jason already
owns it [;)]

I don't like the MP style of live to live battles, but it's the only way the game can be played. I don't think that the Lock N Load system is going to be different either.

I hope they do the France 1940 series next! [:D]

As others have said, this is a very accurate conversion of the board game, and much handier to play than using Vassal. While I like Combat Commander a tad better because of the breadth of forces and wealth of scenarios, COH is very good for the Eastern Front. And not to worry about available units, as Storms of Steel will be out this week, and will add many new units. It is great that this excellent board game has been brought into the PC realm so faithfully! I hope that they will be bringing along Price of Honor soon as well.

If you needed ATB for the next game I'd feel like I spent my money well..but the next game is standalone. However when it comes out can you mix and match if ou own ATB..ie use the units in AtB and the units from SoS for suer made scenarios?

Turns out my was due to a mod not being compatible. SO it's up and running.

Played another scenarios today..was OK. Can't work out why I'm not getting really immersed in it..maybe I'm getting old and losing my imagination? I think if the game had leaders to give the units persoanlity it would help but thats not part of the game. It's def a lack of attachment thats my issue at the moment.

Jason,

I agree about the "leader" assessment. The board game doesn't use leaders either in the game system. I like leader like in SL/ASL and Squad Battles [:D]

I'm liking CoH more now than when it first came out. But yes, Ghost Division should have had more units. That's why I'm considering the upcoming Storms of Steel with 50+ more units. That should do it for me.

Wodin, I assume you already have DB:Case Blue. It has more variety than Warsaw to Paris. On the other hand, WtP is the best treatment of France 1940 I've ever played [:)]

Yeah I have Case Blue..I fancy the campaigns in WtP as you don't see them that often...really enjoy the mechanics. Very rare for a game at this scale to drag me in like DC Case blue does.

I can manage a turn a night. It is a bit of work, which might limit its appeal to some. CoH is quick - but different[;)]
