CONUS:

EC2 Robert Morris is commissioned at Alameda, sent to San Francisco to form up with the TF there.

803rd EAB arrives at San Francisco, it is a replacement unit so, only needs 1 PP to change it to Pacific Ocean Areas HQ. Set to rest and receive replacements until fully formed.

148th Inf Rgt arrives at San Francisco, set to transport to Pago Pago by adding three more xAPs to the current TF loading the BF for Pago Pago. More efficient use of escorts that way.

CANAL ZONE:

Nothing to do here.

NOPAC:

Nothing to do here.

CENTPAC:

Silversides has arrived at Midway and will be undergoing radar upgrade.

SOPAC

CA Louisville formed up with a damaged DD and an undamaged DD for the trip to Pearl from Luganville. Minimal Flt damage, so left as a Surface combat TF at Mission speed. Trip to Pearl is 8 days.

Now that fuel is arriving at Pago Pago, we are sending 7k fuel to Luganville to support operations there. It is a 12 day round trip. Will keep this up as long as we have operations going on there.

The replenishment TF in the Luganville area is directed to refuel the cruisers SCTF there, and then return to Ambryn.

ANZAC:

The Marine Raiders, after the failed Shock attack, need to receive replacements before trying again.

Looks like the Japs are going to try to reinforce PM from Horn Island again. We need to watch for that.

Submarine Actions:

DD O’Brien prosecutes, strongly, twice, I-9 SE of Townsville. Just as the O’Brien runs out of ASW ammo the sub is forced to the surface and sunk!

S-47 engages a xAKL on the surface near Buna. Many shell hits, but no sinking reported.

Haddock puts a torpedo onto DD Yudachi, SE of Truk, but the weapon fails to detonate.

I-23 is prosecuted by AM Matai, approximately 800 miles East of Hawaii to no effect.

S-47 attacks a xAKL at Buna, torpedoes fail to detonate.

I-27 dud’s on BB Tennessee West of Noumea.

I-27 misses DD Helm.

I-170 hits BB Maryland, secondary explosions are reported.

RO-61 Attacked, no damage reported.

S-27 runs out of gun ammo attacking a xAKL at Horn Is. She takes 3 minor hits to 9, mostly penetrating with extra damage hits on the xAKL.

CONUS:

TF377 arrives at LA, loading 65040 fuel for Pearl.

Created local minesweeping TFs at the major ports in case the IJN gets squirrely.

5th USN Construction (SeaBees) is set to Pacific Ocean HQ and moving to San Francisco for transport by fast transport to be part of the Milne Bay operation. Three days to San Francisco, an AMC and APD will get them to the Noumea in short order (at least for the Pacific, it is…), 18-20 days for a total estimated time on target of Noumea of 21-24 days.

Ships with minor Major damage (less than 5 points) cycled through San Francisco repair facilities.

NOPAC:

Set Prince Rupert to draw more supplies, going to start supplying NOPAC from here, instead of Seattle.

Set all NOPAC supply/fuel TFs to home base out of Prince Rupert.

Set 108th USN BF to receive replacements, it will start to be larger and help build Cold Bay up faster.

CANAL ZONE:

Nothing to do here.

CENTPAC:

SS Gar has finished repairs. Set to patrol around the North shore of Hokkaido, as there is lots of merchant activity there along with Grouper, with a home port of Midway.

USN AirSoPac arrives at Pearl, with torpedo reloads and a five hex range it will go nicely at Luganville. Sending it there by Fast Transport with APDs via Pago Pago to refuel the hungry APDs.

SOPAC:

Tennessee is going to be sent to Pearl for repairs from the Torpedo hit, she has 28 flt damage, all of it major. Putting her Kingfishers on ASW patrol 360. Once she gets past Noumea, will send one of her DD’s to Luganville to join the cruisers there.

Per Jeff’s request and conversations with Harvey, forming up the following units for Milne Bay: 7th Marine, 112th USA BF, 176th USAAF BF, 255th USN BF, 208th Cst AA, 96th Cst AA, 97th Cst AA, and 97th FA. This is at Pago Pago. It will be loaded in two TFs, one with the assault troops, Marines, FA, and one air unit, and the rest in a follow up TF with the rest. They will have APD escorts, but will need a cruiser and some DDs if the Landing is to be “Hot”. These two TFs will go to Noumea and wait there for you guys to use them. This will take

A supply TF is scheduled to arrive at Ndeni in two days, but it looks like another SCTF is heading that way south of Lunga. They will wait and see. Another one just left Suva also, and it will rendezvous with this TF, they will be 12 hexes or two days from Ndeni.

Efate needs more supplies, but has a size 4 airfield and is ready to handle ground attack bombers when needed. Will be moving the two port svc units off to Luganville for the time being.

The TF unloading the SeaBees at Vanua Lava is at detection 8/8, need to watch for raiders. Moving the Cruisers to that hex to cover for now and some CAP overhead. The Cruisers will have some Wildcats and the Amphibs will have some P-39s covering.

ANZAC:

Nevada still upgrading…

CHINA:

Moved some more air units further south. Gathering everything for when they start really pushing into the rough terrain.

Submarine Actions:

Haddock prosecuted West of Truk to no effect.

DD Phelps puts some good hits on I-19 at Vana Lava.

Grouper prosecuted West of Hakodate to no effect.

S-34 sighted trying to line up a convoy and is prosecuted northwest of Shortlands for some minor damage.

S-35 misses a xAKL at Lunga.

S-27 puts one into a xAKL at Horn Is. Heavy damage and ship was left burning.

Permit duds on a PB southeast of Truk. No damage from the ASW attack.

DDs find I-170 and hit her twice just east of Cooktown.

S-35 does not fire on a target and is hit six times by the escorts at Lunga.

Jeff, there isn't much for the Combat ships to do right now except escort an amphib op NE of Luganville to build a supplemental air base there. It is under heavy air cover from Luganville, so the little CVE running around would pay dearly in airframes to attack it.

Here is what I did:

21 MAY 42

CONUS:

4th and 5th SeaBees arrive at San Francisco, loading them and the 803rd EAB on an amphibious TF for Milne Bay. Routing them through Pearl and Pago Pago for fuel, and around Noumea to avoid enemy contact. It will take 25 days or so for them to get there.

76th Coast AA arrives at LA, sent to San Francisco.

Disbanded 42nd BG/76th BS at Eastern USA.

CS Convoy with 83k supplies loaded at LA on the way to Sydney via Pearl.

A dozen low volume (3200) cargo ships that I use for moving aircraft squadrons at San Francisco are put into one supply convoy for moving 38k supply to Pearl as they are just collecting barnacles in port right now. Need more supply there, always…

NOPAC:

DD Walke along with BBs Idaho, New Mexico, and Mississippi sent to Seattle for their June upgrades.

Cold Bay’s AF construction is up to 30% very quickly. Bring this up to four to base bombers out of here and allow for a Seattle, Cold Bay, Midway, Christmas Island, SOPAC movement of bombers. No shipping needed!

CANAL ZONE:

CVE Long Island arrives at Balboa, escorts on the way, will send her to San Francisco to transport/train Marine units for carrier duty.

CENTPAC:

ACMs arrive at Pearl, refueled and sent to Pago Pago.

Damaged ships arrive at Pearl, set to repair where everything is out in 16 days or less. All their upgrades are up to date, also.

Chicago’s Sys and Eng damage is starting to come down. Get the Sys to 40 or less and we will send her to Pearl for full repairs. It may take 20 days or more to get her there.

SOPAC:

CLAA San Juan arrives at Luganville, put in port until SCTF comes back, with all the subs around don’t want to try to send her unescorted to it.

APD escort for San Juan sent back to Balboa via Pago Pago for more escort duties.

ANZAC:

Nevada is still upgrading. I believe she still has 10 days left on her upgrade.

CHINA:

2nd AVG is in Calcutta with two airframes of the H81s. It is stuffed with recruits and will remain a training squadron until sufficient airframes are available to send it back to China.

RUSSIA:

Submarine Actions:

DD Furnizuki has some sharp eyes on it, spotted S-44 twice, but the ASW team is a little further behind the curve and has run out of DCs. No damage done.

RO-61 is run over by the amphib TF and escorts on the way to PM, DD Cassin hits it once.

Surface Actions:

CA Kinugasa and CL Kitakami with some DDs bombard Ndeni for minimal damage.

Air Actions:

146 Sallys along with Zero/Oscar escort bomb troops in the open SE of Changsa. 1st AVG has aircraft patrolling this area. 1 P40 and 1 Oscar lost, about 500 Chinese casualties. Would have been much more without the P40s present.

9 Sallys in secondary attack at same location without escort lose one Sally, to no losses on our side.

57 Sallys attack Bandoeng, doing damage to the airfield.

6 Sallys attack Cebu for minimal damage.

34 Nicks attack the same Chinese unit SE of Changsa, 2 P40s are in the area. Nicks shoot done one P40 and do just over 100 casualties.

Ground Actions:

Bombardment at Bandoeng by the Japanese does minimal damage.

Bombardment at Myitkyina by the Japanese does minimal damage.

Milne Bay forces in three TFs (1 ASW leading two transports with more ASW assets attached) are leaving Pago Pago for Noumea. Five day trip to Noumea. A route for them to travel that avoids Lunga and Shortlands as long as possible is a five day trip from Noumea to Milne Bay. So, we can be in Milne Bay in 10 days. Harvey, let me know when you want them to be there.

ANZAC:

Nevada still upgrading.

Marine raiders doing another deliberate attack. One more and their disruption and numbers will require them to not attack again for a bit.

That should catch things up on my end. Overall we are concentrating on limiting the Japananese expansions into the South Pacific at Port Moresby (2/3 of the 4th ID and 38th ID bottled up there), and at Lunga. Luganville is solidly ours and there is the Americal division at Noumea and the 41st at Pago Pago. A significant amphib force of a Marine Rgt, some BFs, SeaBees, and AAA is heading towards Milne Bay, D-Day for them is 10-14 days. There is currently nothing there, so they will be setting up a home.

One small hold out in Java, and it, along with the rest of the SRA will be in Japan's hands. In Burma, we are slowly being kicked out. But, Harvey has blunt their noses at Akyab and we hope to be able to hold them there.

China is going to be tough, but will shall see what we can do there...
