H2H Mod question

Post by Khane »

Since I play only solo games I never bothered to download and install the H2H Mod but having recently read that it's not only for PBEM and on-line games but also enhance the solo game I installed it yesterday . I made a copy of my SPWAW 7.1 folder named it SPWAWH2 and installed the H2H Mod in this folder. I then created a second SPWAW shortcut , named it SPWAWH2 and in the properties of the shortcut I changed the target to "SPWAWH2H\autorun.exe". I deleted the original scenarios from the Scenario's folder.
Last night I played 2 small games from the H2H solitaire scenarios but did not see the difference between the game with H2H Mod the one without. Did I miss something or did not install properly ?
If I did miss something, do the original scenarios play differently with H2H Mod installed ?

Thanks

One way to tell if you've got it installed correctly is to look at the wording above the selections where you pick mega campaigns or solitaire or timed play etc., It will plainly say, "Colonel, This is Head to Head" (or maybe it's just H2H, can't remember). Also when you are purchasing units, you should notice a difference in the names of them.

I'm not sure from your post if you did this, but you have to make an entire, duplicate install of SPWaW and import H2H into that. You will see a difference when you get it correct.

Hope this helps some.

Don't use autorun

Post by Supervisor »

change the shortcut to read "SPWAWH2H\mech.exe" if you go through the autorun menu I think when you click to play SPWAW it's going to go to the original location of SPWAW by design and run it's program. Just a theory. And yes they will play differently as the OOB's are redone, Icons and so forth but you really should play scenarios and campaigns that were designed for H2H as trying to play originally designed SPWAW battles with H2H mods can cause the battle to act straingly, because of the way they were origianlly designed.

Hello Jim thanks for your answer

Yes , "Colonel, This is Head to Head" does appear on the screen and the missions I got are different than those of the regular game without the H2H Mod. So as I understand the installation was correct. What I do not see is a change in the gameplay ( not that the original is bad , quite the opposite :) )
As I understand the H2H Mod was designed for 2 human players games but is supposed to enhance also the solo games. My question is what does the H2H Mod change in the solo game ( gameplay ? graphics ? )

Thanks

This is a little ditty from the download site. I don't think I've ever seen a "complete" list of all the changes that were made. Ask Leo, he'd know.

Also, scenarios designed for 7.1 will most likely NOT work properly for H2H! They were playtested and balanced to work for a completely different set of OOBs (i.e. the ones in 7.1). That is, if you play the scenarios that comes with the 7.1 install, you can't count on the outcome.

Now, there's a lot of new scenarios around designed specifically for H2H. One easy way to find them is to head over to the Dirty Dozen. New ones each month thanks to the dedication of this community! :D

Quick way to see one of the changes in H2H: Deploy the Japanese with their Type 97 ATR. (Or anyone with any ATR.) In the battle, view an ATR unit's details. They are now outfitted with HE ammo, making them tactical marksmen as well. That's just a tiny change.

In H2H watch how fast your arty rounds get used up.

And, you have to be able to read German to buy German equipment. It takes a few days but after that it's no big deal, you'll be saying, "That b@stard shot my Späher (scout)." in no time. :)

Jim: Pretty dang loud, I almost surrendered anyway just because. I can only imagine what this could do on a battlefiled. I've seen first hand on what it's predecessor the Big Blu 82 (15,000lbs) was capable of, this is just as much a propaganda tool as it is a weapon.

Ahhh, MOAB! I remember hearing about it because the city of Moab, Utah, didn't like the acronym. They thought it would detract from the outdoorsy, peace loving image they have been trying to project. I think they'll have a hard time convincing a judge that someone would associate the one with the other and thus be able to get a restraining order on the use of the name.:)

I wonder how that thing would be modeled in SPWAW?

Artillery piece. Accuracy: Minimum to hit the target area reliably (thus higher than most rockets, lower (MUCH!!) than a squad mortar). ROF: Max. Warhead: Max. Kill: Max. Ammo: Only enough so that you can only fire it once no matter what the arty delay is. HE PEN: Max.

This should allow a wide spread effect with massive damage on and around each hex and several hits on each hex (due to the high ROF) and little chance of any man or machine surviving each individual hit. This gives MOAB several checks to destroy most everything in a wide area. Icon is a Mack truck with wings. :p :D

I'm imagining a 4 by 6 hex area with everything destroyed, anything within 10 hexes of that area routed, anything within 10 hexes of that severly suppressed and everyone else on the map changing their shorts.:)

Add 3 barrels of smaller calibre and inordinate inaccuracy for the wider area effect? ^_^ Call the smaller barrels "Shock Effect"?

...

I think it says something that I'm taking this seriously. x.x
