Saving traded oil?

Post by Courtenay »

I can't save traded oil. As an example, I try and save the oil the CW gets from Persia in Alexandria. The oil the CW gets is from the oil hex on the rail line and there is a direct rail line to Alexandria, through neutral Iraq and Turkey and friendly Syria. No convoys needed. I set the Persian oil to default to Save at Alexandria, and the program dutifully tells me that that is the default. However, when I click on recompute, the oil resource in Persia stays idle.

Similar problems arise when trying to save the NEI oil in Australia and India; doing so requires convoys, which are in place.

This is particularly problematic for France, which only has access to one oil, which I like to store in Damascus. Again, attempting to do so does not work.

Saving oil that is not traded works; for example, saving the Burmese oil in Mandalay works.

Am I missing a rule here, am I using the computer interface incorrectly, or is this a bug?

The CW can only save 1 oil since they are netural. Which they are at the start of the game. Once they go to war, then you can stockpile as much as you want.

While what you say is true, I also saw somewhere that traded oil could not be saved, even when a power is no longer neutral. Can we get a clarification on that.

Rule-wise, traded oil can be saved or produced, but can't be used for re-org the same turn it arrives.

I was doing this in the Production Planning phase, after the CW was at war. Oil build limits did not apply. France has only one oil resource, so clearly the neutral limit is not the cause of the problem.

With more work, I discovered that Override lets me save oil, but that Default does not. To get the oil to save, I had to go to Override, Clear Override (even though I hadn't overridden anything before), and then Override the desired save. Thus I do get to save my oil, but Default did not work.

I _almost_ have my convoys working they way I designed them. I still can't get the Australian resource to Canadian factory, Canadian resource to Britain maneuver working. The program insists on fueling Canadian factories with Canadian resources. I have not given up; I hope that enough overrides will get things to work. I do wish, though, that my defaults would actually be used as default.

I have experienced the same. The game changes (randomly?) from turn to turn which oil in Persia you get. Sometimes it is the one on the coast without a rail line, so you might want to have a convoy in Persian Gulf to pick it up.

Ah, that explains that bug.[&o] Maybe I'll always make it the one on the rail line. I want to think about that for a day or two before deciding. Opinions from others are welcome.

I think for trade agreements 1) giving the best connected resource and 2) have that fixed for the duration of the deal is favorable. For neutral countries that lend to more than one power, take the order of mentioning in the rules (Ex.: Venezuela: 1) CW, 2) US; Rumania: 1) GE, 2) IT). For DOD/PoliF trade agreements are first come first serve, breaking ties by min( distance to capital - influence level ).

The lottery makes it unnecessarily hard to archive consistent results for production planning. So I am for it ;)

I have a couple of saved games from Yves where using Overrides works but using Defaults fails. They also have differences on which Persian oil goes to the Commonwealth. Now that I have saved games in hand for reproducing this, it will be easier for me to fix it. But I am looking for even lower hanging fruit (easier bugs to fix) at the moment. NetPlay bugs are also very annoying (to me).

Netplay should be higher on the list, was just commenting since you asked for an opinion.
