Scenario Size

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Scenario Size

Post by Gerry4321 »

Hello:

Wondering what is the range in scenario size in terms of number of units - can you relate it to the demo scenario "Return to St. Vith"?

Thanks,

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

Markshot compiled an scenario complexity analysis for BFTB (see the sticky post). I see that this is available for download from the Member's area if you are a registered owner of BFTB. I just checked, and it seems that the link there is broken.

Does anybody have a copy at hand?

Return to St Vith is on a map of about 150km2 and forces are about divisional strength I believe.
A scenario like HTTR's from the Meuse to the Rijn is on a map more like 2000km2 and the allies have about 4 divisions.

Thanks. About how many companies, and therefore counters, in a division? And is "From the Meuse to the Rijn" one of the largest scenarios?

Average division has 2-3 bde/kmpfgrp, each of 2-4 btn, each btn 3-4 coy.
I am currently in a scenario of my own making with corps strength on both sides (3-4 div apiece, + corp level assets equivalent to an additional 3 btn each.
I think "from the Meuse to the Rijn" is one of the largest stock scenarios, but I know several including myself have messed with larger.

As a rough rule of thumb work on 100 units per division.

Have: Socks. Deodorant. £2 gloves. Mince pies.
Want: Line formation banned until I give a specific order to use line formation. Troops that don't take lie-ins until 0800 unless ordered to never rest.

Would be great if in the scenario description it mentioned the size of the scenario and difficulty.

I do not see "from the Meuse to the Rhein" listed, is there another page?

That was the only page.

The list shows BFTB scenario's, not HTTR scenario's. Meuse to the Rhine is HTTR scenario if I am not mistaken.

from the Meuse to the Rhein is a HTTR scenario; sorry for any confusion but I believe it is larger than any BFTB scenario by a decent margin and shows the scope of this game engine and what's available.
