Carrier Aircraft replacements

Post by Heeward »

My carrier air groups do not appear to be getting any replacements.

CV Task Force dock in port of Carins
Aircraft
Squadron Pilots Pool
35 F4F4 35 35
13 SBD 17 50
12 SBD 13 50
7 TBD 8 12

Port Supplies 38,168
Fuel 31,563

Task Force has spent entire turn docked in port (4 in a row)

Also tried CV in harbor not in Task Force

I am pretty sure that Cairns is not within transfer range of Brisbane for any of your carrier aircraft. Try moving the TF to Townsville and see what happens.

Did carriers get replacements while at sea? Nothing I have read suggests this. Granted, CVs, and other ships, spend a lot more time at sea in UV than in actuality, but I always understood that one received replacements when one returned to a major base for "R&R"-- repair and replacement.

I think you actually have to go to Brisbane or Noumea for replacements now.
I give approximately two fifths of a !#$% at any given time!

Stictly an allied player are we? ;) The formulation should be Truk/Brisbane/Noumea.

And no, you don't need to be in those ports. You just need to be docked at a port that is withing air transfer range. For the Japs, with their long range planes, they can be parked anywhere in the Solomons/NG. The Allied player needs to be closer due to the shorter range of his planes. Townsville and Luganville will work. Lunga and Cairns will not.

LOL cap. :D

No. He said his CV was docked at Cairns. Why state more than is needed? ;)

And thanks for the correction. I'll use that to my advantage.

Hi Cap

well depends on the plane does it not ? (well his planes as of now are not going too far, but the TBF will fly out to Lunga, T and Russell)

Hi Heeward
well, from what I remember reading, the planes to replace/reinforce the CV must be able to fly to that port from the main bases (N,B,T)

most of the early US planes can fly to Lugenville, so that port can replace planes, if you build a base on Isusa (?) the SBD can fly to that base, the TBF can fly to Lunga

if the plane can transfer there, the port can replace it

also works with upgradeing planes, you got a 39 unit in PM that is upgradeable to P-40's, and you got enough in your pool, you will have to pull that 39 unit back, as the 40 can't fly to PM, but the 38 can

Quite clearly in the patch notes, always a good thing to read when putting a patch on. For that matter, you should probably read the ENTIRE history of patch notes from 1.00 onwards as the manual refers to a pre-1.00 game that only the beta players got to see so it is quite wrong in a lot of areas.

Rule (16) of 2.30 notes:

Upgrades of aircraft on ships will only happen when a ship (either at anchor or in a TF) is in a base hex that is within air transfer range (for the gaining aircraft) of Noumea, Brisbase or Truk.

The interesting this to note here is that this range is dependant on the plane being upgraded, not a generic range number, so longer ranged planes will be upgraded at ports farther away.

Do they get replaced as they get into the pool or does the pool have to fill to a certain limit before they start shipping them out as replacements?

Sonny,

Regular replacements flow from the pool as they are needed. Aircraft upgrades flow from the same pool, but only when a certain level is reached in the pool.

133% for USA

125% for Japan

So you'll be getting your planes like P-39D's which have planes coming into the pool but not your F4F-3's because there are none flowing into the pool. You have to wait until the F4F-4's reach 133% in the pool before you get upgraded.

The upgrade places the old planes back in the pool so they can be used by other groups that need them too.

(case in point with 2.30: The squad of F4F-3's that show up in Noumea will get upgraded to 24 F4F-4's s soon as 32 are available (24 x 133%), placing their old 19 F4F-3's back into the pool. These 19 F4F-3's will be snatched up by your 2 CV's to fill out their F4F-3 groups that are short aircraft as soon as you dock within range of Noumea/Brisbane).

Has anyone else noticed something odd with the 125%/133% rule?

It certainly holds true that the Allies have to achieve 133% for the F4F-3s to convert.

However, for the land based stuff, I see it roll over at 125%.

For instance, I keep a game log. In it I track where my P-38 level in the pool is, as I am eager to know when I'll get my next squadron.

I am convinced it happens at 30 planes, which would work out to 125% (24 * 1.25 = 30). I know this because after it rolls over, I have 6 left in the pool. 30 - 24 (for the sqn) is 6.

I also saw this when my A-24s rolled over to A-20Bs. It happened at 20 which works out to 125% (16 * 1.25 = 20).

So either I'm crazy, or the 133% is true only for only some Allied planes, of which we all know the F4F-3 is one.

Not talking about upgrades. My CVs start out with under strength fighters. there are only 4 in the pool, but none of them has yet been shipped out to a CV in need. The CVs are parked at Noumea.

The order of operations kicks in here:

Supply Phase: (the very end of the turn)

Air groups short pilots check for pilots needed after performing repairs then Air groups short planes check for planes in pool.

This means unless you have spare pilots for the new planes coming from the pool you will not get planes that can fly right away.

Ground based air groups check 2 out of every 3 turns.

Ship based air groups check every turn.

Air groups with less total aircraft (ie: those who need lots of replacements) are given priority.

I cannot find the exact point in the turn resolution sequence where replacement aircraft are added to the pool, it may or may not come before the step where the pool is checked to see if planes are available. This could cost you an extra turn, as when you are looking at the pool information, it is always the turn after these steps have taken place.

It's a safe bet, 3 turns of sitting there will get you your aircraft. 1 turn is unlikely, 2 turns is risky, if you plan on 3, it's a sure thing.
