How in the world do you get supply to Petsamo?

By sea (tough for the axis). Or an HQ moves up the road. (takes awhile unless Mannerheim sets-up there). You can trace supply down a road just like a RR but can't use it for RR movement.

Then I guess that I don't understand supply! If you can trace down the road to the rail line and then to Helsinki, why no supply in Petsamo? Not that it's a biggie. There isn't anything up there....

Max 4 hexes in clear weather for non -HQ units to a source, which can be an HQ. HQ can use (rail)road to get supply..

So unit can't trace 4 hexes to a RR and then to a source? You can only trace to a HQ that traces to a source? I'm going to have to read some more about supply [&:]

Yes to having to trace to an HQ first - or some other secondary or primary supply source. No Petsamo is not a supply source. It is a port but not a city - unlike Murmansk FREX.

For Finnish units, all cities are primary supply source. For German units, only the capital is a supply source, and even then its only a SECONDARY.

There's where I was confused. I thought that Petsamo was a city. I looked at the map W/O units, and it's not a city!

Petsamo is considered a secondary supply source, not a primary. An HQ is a primary supply source, that's why units can trace supply to it. Since it's a port and not a city then it can't even supply Finnish units.

You really should read the rules about supply. The Rules as Coded gives an excellent explanation of how supply works and you really need to understand how it works in order to make it work for you.

historically, the Axis did supply Petsamo by sea at times, from Norway, but you can't do it the same way in World in Flames as a supply line can only go overseas one time. In WiF, the Axis would have to trace supply through 3 sea zones to supply Petsamo = unlikely to accomplish

Between supply and convoys, I'm about ready to take a break from this! I'm not sure if it's my kind of game? I like to have fun, not bewildered....
