[WAD - MISSION DOCTRINE NEEDS CHANGING] Baffling Backfire Behavior?

Post by Gunner98 »

Setting up a classic WW3 scenario and have a flock of Tu-22M Backfires in an ASuW mission loitering North of a Soviet SAG with settings to fire on anyone.[:D] The intent is that once the SAG got enough resolution on the US CVBG they would fly south and add their AS-4 Kitchen (sinks) to the mix. What actually happened is that I experimented with a Satellite and when it overflew the CVBG the Backfires flew South like a flock of seagulls chasing a pretzel[8D]. All good but I need to work on the timing a bit.[X(]

The problem is that once the AS-4 Kitchens were launched I was expecting the Tu-22s to head home, grab a shot of Vodka, reload and have a re-run. Not so! They just kept heading south like a bunch of brain-dead cattle to the slaughter![:@] How can I prevent this? Are they supposed to do this? All was going so well….
[:(]

Did you give the aircraft a home base?

Right click unit, select a new home base if not.

Yes the units have a home, they actually fly from there earlier in the scenario. I'm wondering if it thinks its defensive weapons (APP-50 and 23mm gun) need to be expended before it goes home?

Here you go. Two saves in the Zip. The 'backup' save is before the problem shows up. The other file is the 'after' I think there is only a couple backfires left and that is only because I ran out of missiles.

Super

I noted in the build 464 release notes that ftrs would return to base when only defensive wpns remain, I suspect that something along that line will fix it. Let me know if I can help out.

Appreciate all the help. Fantastic game and the support is even better!
