Satellites and ICBMs

Post by raten83 »

I'll start off by saying this is a great game. I have come across a couple of issues. When I try to add a satellite, I get a message saying an error has occured. I tried to upload a screenshot of it to this post, but is saying the file is too large. Thus I cannot add a satellite. My second problem is that I am running CMANO on a machine with a 3.4 GHz i7 processor with 24 GB RAM and 1.89 TB HD, and if I launch more than 15 to 20 MIRVed ICBMs from CONUS, the simulation will almost always lock down when the ICBMs begin to MIRV over Greenland. The same holds true if I try to ripple launch more than 2 Ohio Class SSBNs with Trident II D5 SLBMs. I would like to use the simulation for various strategic first strike scenarios, but I am limited in the number of missiles I can launch per mission without the game locking down. Also, I noticed in the DB3000 database, the Peacekeeper ICBM only has one W87 warhead. In reality, it had 10 W87 MIRVed warheads.

I am running build 472 and I do have the hi fidelity mode turned off. I still cant upload the screenshot of the satellite error. It is saying the file is too large, but it is only 136K.

Hello and welcome!

Can you please provide us a detailed step-by-step of the UI actions you are making? ("Click on this, then that"). UI errors are quite difficult to troubleshoot if we cannot precisely reproduce the user actions. A screenshot would also help a lot. Thanks!

Could you please post a save file from when the game slows down? It's possible that you have discovered a performance bottleneck that we haven't yet come across (or it's a new one). Thanks!

Thanks, we missed that. I'll pass it to our DB guys.

I have two .save and one .scen files, along with the screenshot of my satellite problem in a zip file, but when I try to upload it, I get a message saying the file is too large. The zip file is 1574KB. I also tried just uploading the screen shot (~150KB) and I also get a message saying the file is too large. Is there somewhere else I can upload the zip file to, or can somebody help me out?

If you have a Google account, upload the files to your GDrive and share them. Or you can use one of the free file-hosting services (Rapidshare, Mediafire etc.)

Below is the mediafire link for the zip file. I think I have the satellite issue resolved. I sucessfully added a Key Hole satellite in Build 472. I was wanting to add DSP satellites, but I see now that there aren't any available to add. It won't let me add links either, so copy and paste and take out extra spaces below.

Okay, on the performance side. We have added a number of speed tweaks in Build 475 which should give you a big boost (I am getting consistent 300-500ms pulse-times, which is very good considering the size of the scen). That said, you are running a scenario with 2500-3000+ active units, so your PC is going to get stressed in any case.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help. I will try the Build 475 and see what happens. I was running the same scenario on two different machines, one with 6GB of RAM and another with 24GB RAM and was still getting the same result, so I decided to come here and see what could be done, if anything. I appreciate your help with it.

If you have plenty of RAM available, it's not a bad idea to place the entire Command folder on a RAM-drive.
